Looking for a part-time Community Support Worker to help support recreation (swimming and other activities) with life skills (see Roles below). We are located in the west end of Toronto (St. Clair / Runnymede area), man in his 50’s, an actor, a writer, and Down Syndrome advocate. We are looking for someone who shares the values of a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community--one where everyone can share their abilities.
A brief but personal cover letter with your application is preferred.
Hours:
1 - 2 part-time shifts, (landing on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays)
Roles
Supporting individual to travel to Community Centre for leisure swimming
Supporting the individual with independent living (support with home maintenance tasks, particularly organizing books and papers etc) and maintaining meal plans, and cooking, supporting scheduled medical appointments, organizing information).
Supporting the member’s health needs including guidance on personal care, physical, and nutritional needs.
Ensuring safety, in the regular routines, daily living, and in the pursuit of new goals and opportunities.
Assisting in building healthy relationships. Supporting respectful communication and boundaries with friends, family, and others in his personal network.
Other roles may include
- Support with art projects, writing, and technology
- Support with volunteer roles or other occupations
- Support with skills including some housework or other household duties.
- Helping with schedules and checklists.
- Fun outings, (ie. theatre, music, parks)
- Job searching and job coaching
Requirements: Emergency First Aid & CPR (or willing to obtain)
Vulnerable Sector Police check.
Assets
Experience, through work, volunteering (will consider related life experiences).
Formal education in a Social Services program.
Interest in arts, or artistic activities (acting, music, painting).
Assertive communication, setting boundaries.
