Content Specialist
It’s an exciting time to join the marketing team at Pivotree. We’ve spent the past year rebuilding our GTM function and we need more hands on deck to help us execute.
We are looking for someone who still lives and breathes human-made content. Our team and the org at large uses AI a lot, and you’ll have access to enterprise-grade Claude tools, process automation tools, AI training, and internal support to help you upskill if you need it. That said, we have no interest in churning out endless AI-generated blogs and LinkedIn posts because we think that humans still want to hear from other humans.
To that end, your application and your portfolio need to showcase that you can think and write and create like a person, not like a
Robot.
The successful applicant will be able to understand our technical audience and our complex service portfolio and translate that understanding into excellent content that earns attention,
educates prospects, and makes it easy and enticing to work with Pivotree.
What we do
Pivotree builds and manages the systems that get products from a database to a doorstep:
product data, commerce platforms, integrations, and the operational work that keeps all of it running long after go-live.
We sell to CTOs, CDOs, VPs of Ecommerce, and channel, merchandising, and data systems leaders at commerce businesses in the mid-market and up. They're smart people working inside org structures that make these problems hard to fix, which is why we don't publish content that tries to explain their own jobs back to them.
What you’ll do
You will excavate information from our team of in-house experts to create the type of content that gets us noticed and keeps us sticky in the minds of prospects who are in-market (important)
and out-of-market (even more important).
You will not be starting from zero. Here’s what you’ll have to work with from day one:
● Data vs. Commerce, our podcast. Each episode is ~20 minutes of an operator explaining something specific. You won't produce the show; we have an agency for that. You'll turn it into other content by taking that raw material (transcripts, clips) and getting it into the blog, onto LinkedIn, into landing pages, into ad copy, into whatever format the idea has earned.
● A robust messaging framework with a solid central idea and supporting pillars to draw from.
● An account intelligence program that gets us thousands of data points you can use for industry-specific content.
● Access to industry, platform, and domain-specific experts — from our CTO to our industry leads to our frontline delivery team — who can help you identify the “what”, “so what”, and “now what”.
● A martech and content production stack that includes HubSpot, Claude, Gemini,
Riverside, Canva, Clay, Warmly, SEMRush, and access to a full-service design agency.
We’re open to using other tools, too.
You will be primarily responsible for:
Blog and organic discovery. You own what gets written, published, refreshed, and retired. You should already have opinions about AEO and GEO, and ideally you've been running experiments because you find the problem interesting.
LinkedIn and executive ghostwriting. Social media is a big part of this and we’re not doing this well today, so you have an opportunity to completely overhaul the social strategy. You will own our company channel, plus writing as the executives and SMEs who don't have time or appetite to write. Ghostwriting is its own skill and it isn't the same as being a good writer.
Secondary podcast/video content creation. Our production agency already handles recording, editing, and a lot of publishing. You’ll pick up where they leave off by generating additional social media content, owning the channels they don’t touch (like Instagram), and repurposing our other expert-led videos.
Landing pages, ad copy, and long-form. Campaign copy for the offerings we're launching,
gated assets, the pages that have to convert. Range matters more here than volume. You won’t be the only person doing this work on the team, so you won’t get buried in publishing endless campaign pages with no time left over to be creative.
Big ideas. If you have an incredible, sales-enabling content idea you can’t produce yourself
(because it needs advanced design, video production, front-end development, etc.) and there’s a solid business case for it, you’ll be given the resources to get it done. You will be closest to the content strategy, so we’ll be looking to you for that inspiration.
Who this is for
You've got 5+ years of relevant experience and a portfolio that proves range: something long,
something short, something that had to convert, something that was written for a truly expert audience. It’s fine if your experience is not just content or even not just marketing. If you’ve been a generalist or working in an adjacent discipline like demand gen and want to get focused on producing human-led content while everyone else is outsourcing it to AI, we definitely want to hear from you. If you’ve never done marketing in your life but have the skills to get the job done,
we’re going to want to hear about that in great detail in your interview, but it doesn’t exclude you from the shortlist.
You don’t mind being part of a small and scrappy team. We’re not delusional — you won’t have to do what’s in the plus literally everything else that could reasonably be called
“marketing” — but we all pitch in as required on tasks like current collateral creation, event logistics, and partner marketing support. If you write a blog post, you may also be the one configuring and publishing that blog post. To make sure we protect our time, we use a custom-built PM system in Notion that helps everyone understand what’s on their plate and what their true capacity looks like.
You’re passionate about keeping marketing human and you get the ick from AI-generated copy.
You can spot the AI tells that casual observers miss, like every hypothetical situation happening
“on a Tuesday”, “pattern” and “shape” standing in for actual nouns, sound-register words for invisible failure, everything being “worth naming” even when it isn’t, and useless tee-up phrases like “here’s the thing”. At the same time, you know how to use AI to make the work faster and better — just not the phrasing part (that was a human-generated em dash, by the way).
You take the time to truly understand your subject matter before you write for an expert audience. If you’re writing about product taxonomy or the inner workings of a PIM, you’d rather delay a draft by two days than publish something a practitioner can see through immediately.
You measure success in ways that matter to the whole business, not just post counts. You know that impressions and clicks aren’t useful if they don’t translate to target account engagement and qualified pipeline.
