Where You Will Be Working
Nasittuq supports operations across the North Warning System (NWS), a network of remote sites located throughout Canada's Arctic. Based in Ottawa, you will support contract administration, procurement, subcontract management, and commercial activities that sustain critical northern infrastructure and operations.

Why This Role?
This role provides an opportunity to lead the development, negotiation, administration, and interpretation of complex commercial contracts supporting a critical national defence program. You will serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on contractual risk, commercial strategy, terms and conditions, supplier agreements, and subcontract management. The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting Nasittuq's interests through effective contract drafting, negotiation, and commercial decision-making while supporting customers, suppliers, and subcontractors across a large and complex operational environment.
What You'll Do
- Draft, review, negotiate, and administer a broad range of commercial agreements, including contracts, subcontracts, amendments, non-disclosure agreements, teaming agreements, purchase orders, and supplier agreements.
- Lead negotiations with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve commercially advantageous outcomes while effectively managing contractual risk.
- Develop, review, and customize contract terms and conditions to ensure alignment with business objectives, contractual obligations, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret contractual requirements and provide guidance to management and operational teams regarding rights, obligations, risks, remedies, and compliance requirements.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual, commercial, financial, and performance-related risks throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Support proposal and business development activities by reviewing solicitation documents, identifying contractual risks, developing exceptions and assumptions, and drafting commercial responses.
- Review Statements of Work, specifications, and technical requirements to ensure contractual clarity, scope definition, and risk allocation.
- Lead the preparation, review, negotiation, and execution of subcontract agreements supporting operational and project requirements.
- Monitor contract performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, deliverable requirements, reporting commitments, and funding limitations.
- Manage change orders, contract modifications, claims, equitable adjustments, and other contractual actions.
- Develop negotiation strategies and support senior leadership in customer and supplier negotiations.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and auditable contract records and documentation throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with Procurement, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Program teams to support business objectives and contract execution.
- Identify contractual issues, disputes, and performance concerns and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Support Government of Canada contracting activities and ensure compliance with applicable procurement regulations and contractual frameworks.
- Perform other related duties in support of departmental and organizational objectives.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in contract management, commercial management, contracts administration, legal contracts, procurement, or subcontract management.
- Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing complex commercial contracts and agreements.
- Strong experience negotiating contractual terms and conditions, risk allocation provisions, pricing arrangements, indemnification clauses, limitations of liability, warranties, intellectual property, and dispute resolution provisions.
- Experience supporting contract lifecycle management from proposal development through contract closeout.
- Experience interpreting and applying contract law principles in a commercial environment.
- Experience negotiating with customers, suppliers,
subcontractors, and other external stakeholders.
- Experience with Government of Canada contracting, defence contracting, or large-scale infrastructure programs is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with ITAR, Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and ISO 9001:2015 is considered an asset.
SKILLS
- Advanced knowledge of commercial contract management principles and contract law.
- Strong contract drafting, editing, and document development skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex contractual terms and conditions and achieve commercially favourable outcomes.
- Strong understanding of risk identification, risk mitigation, and commercial decision-making.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and legally sound contractual documents.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
- Ability to interpret contractual language and communicate complex concepts to non-contracting stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance contractual risk against operational and commercial objectives.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency with contract management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and electronic procurement platforms.
