The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Coordinator, Recreation Services in the Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries division.

The Coordinator, Recreation Services is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of recreation programming, working with the Supervisor and Manager as needed.
Essential responsibilities:
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Lead a team of students in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
- Assist with daily operations of recreation programming
- Assist with the on-going review, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs/events
- Assist with special programs/projects as required
- Establish partnership opportunities that would enhance program growth and development
- Utilize PerfectMind software to input, register, amend and report all program details
- Assist with budget management
- Research and identify new innovative program/event opportunities that would increase revenue generation/participation
- Responsible for fundraising and obtaining sponsorships to enhance programming opportunities
- Maintain a database inventory of program/event materials
- Assist with public relations
- Assist with program marketing campaigns and related tasks
- Assist with the recruitment process and training of recreation program staff/students/volunteers
- Provide support to co-workers, management, other departments and the public on related recreation issues
Essential qualifications:
- College certificate or diploma (preferably in a social science, recreation/leisure, kinesiology, health promotion or community development program), with four (4) to six (6) years of related experience
- Experience in community recreation event planning, preferably in a recreational services environment
- Experience working with special needs preferred
- Supervisory and leadership skills
- Experience with recruitment and training process for staff, students and volunteers
- Experience with operating budget
- Experience with program marketing campaigns
- Proficient in utilizing/maintaining social media resources
- Working knowledge of /PerfectMind, UKG, JD Edwards (or other similar programs)
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)
Certifications, memberships, licenses:
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (PCHD) an asset
- High Five - Quest 2 certification an asset
- Red Cross Youth Leader an asset
Work environment/hours of work:
- This position works both indoors and outdoors
- This position works weekday, evenings, weekend and on-call hours
- Ability to work a variable work schedule including evenings and weekends
Working Remotely This position has been approved for remote working, at the discretion of the supervisor based on the Working Remotely Policy.
This position may be required to attend in office meetings in order to complete essential responsibilities of the role. As per the Working Remotely Policy, employees scheduled to work remotely on a certain day may occasionally be called to a municipal onsite work location on short notice. Employees must remain flexible to accommodate municipal requirements and be prepared to be called in on short notice.
Driver’s license/vehicle requirements:
Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G (or higher) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. An acceptable driver’s abstract will: be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30)
days); have no more than four (4) demerit points; have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence; have no criminal code convictions; have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years; because this position may be required to drive their own vehicle, a reliable vehicle is also required.
Background check
Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment; you must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check.
Essential physical and/or safety requirements:
- Sitting: frequently sitting in a chair (sitting at desk; driving to program locations) (up to 2.03 kgs or 5 lbs)
- Hands: frequently fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (program requirements as needed; computer tasks
Advantages This permanent full-time position has an annual salary of $58,157 to $65,872 and will receive benefits including: participation in the OMERS pension plan (mandatory) as well as sick and vacation entitlements. Following successful completion of a 3-month waiting period, candidates will also be entitled to a comprehensive group benefits package.
