About Little Friends Child Care
Little Friends Child Care Toronto Inc. is excited to welcome a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to our brand-new licensed child care centre in Scarborough.
We are currently hiring a Part-Time ECA to support our Toddler and Preschool classrooms.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children and is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment where every child feels a robust sense of belonging.
About the Role
As an Early Childhood Assistant at Little Friends Child Care, you will work collaboratively with Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) and other centre staff to support children's daily care, supervision, learning, development, and well-being.
You will assist educators with classroom activities, daily routines, transitions, meals, outdoor play, rest periods, classroom organization, and maintaining a clean and welcoming learning environment.
Our program incorporates a thoughtful combination of emergent, play-based learning and Montessori-inspired practices, encouraging children's independence, curiosity, exploration, and meaningful learning experiences.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working with both Toddler and Preschool-aged children and assisting wherever needed within the centre.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with RECEs to provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Assist with the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences.
- Provide active supervision and support the health, safety, and well-being of children at all times.
- Build warm, caring, responsive, and positive relationships with children.
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, transitions, outdoor play, and rest periods.
- Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, creative, and physical development.
- Encourage independence, confidence,
curiosity, cooperation, and positive social interactions.
- Assist RECEs with classroom programming, learning materials, observations, and documentation as required.
- Help prepare and organize classroom activities and learning environments.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, toys, equipment, and learning materials.
- Follow proper cleaning, sanitizing, infection prevention, and health and safety procedures.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, educators, management, and other staff.
- Follow procedures relating to allergies, medication, attendance, emergencies, outdoor play, and other daily routines.
- Follow the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), licensing requirements, centre policies, and applicable health and safety requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and centre events as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
- Be flexible and willing to assist in different classrooms and areas of the centre when required.
- Contribute positively to the culture and development of our current child care centre.
Qualifications – Required
- Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) certification, diploma, or recognized equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of qualified experience working with children in a licensed child care centre.
- Experience working directly with Toddler and/or Preschool-aged children.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification or ability to obtain it before commencing employment.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check or ability to obtain one before commencing employment.
- Basic knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Familiarity with How Does Learning Happen? and Ontario's early learning and child care environment is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively as part of an early childhood education team.
- Ability to actively supervise and engage with young children throughout the day.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, professional, patient, and caring.
- Genuine passion for working with young children.
