NATURE OF THE WORK

Under the responsibility of the Director of Sabtuan Adult Education Services (SAES) and the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Student Success. The position of education consultant encompasses, in particular, responsibility for providing advice and support to staff of educational institutions and services in the implementation, development and evaluation of programs of study, class management and instructional materials.

The consultant provides specialized pedagogical guidance and support related to the needs of adult students with disabilities, learning difficulties, social maladjustments, or other special education needs. The consultant supports inclusive teaching practices and helps ensure that classroom adaptations, flexibilities, accommodations and evaluation measures are appropriate, consistently implemented and aligned with applicable Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec (MEQ) requirements.

SOME CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES The consultant participates in carrying out the educational project and the special projects of educational institutions; he or she participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of their educational project, while complying with the academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institutions and the school board.

He or she contributes to the implementation of programs of study and training, provides advice to the teachers and administration concerning the interpretation of those programs, designs and leads training workshops and sessions on program components; he or she collaborates in developing learning situations and supports experimentation in class.





He or she provides advice and support to teachers either individually or in a group format in matters pertaining to their daily teaching activities; he or she develops or selects and delivers training and instrumentation activities designed to respond to needs in pedagogical adaptation, innovation and development.

He or she provides teachers with practical, student-specific strategies related to differentiated instruction, classroom adaptations, flexibilities and accommodations, and supports teachers in implementing and reviewing these strategies in daily classroom practice.

He or she develops and delivers skilled learning, reference tools and practical resources for teachers and staff on special education, inclusive education, learning difficulties, classroom intervention, accommodations and assistive technology.

He or she provides teachers with learning evaluation tools and guides them in the design, preparation or adaptation of evaluation tools.

He or she maintains current knowledge of MEQ requirements, guidelines and procedures concerning adaptation measures and conditions permitted during examinations and evaluations, and advises teachers and management to ensure that support measures are appropriately documented and compliant with applicable requirements.





He or she may be called upon to work with a multidisciplinary team to draw up and review the individualized education plan of a handicapped student or a student with social maladjustments or learning difficulties; he or she participates in defining intervention objectives and means.

He or she works with teachers to prepare and implement strategies and projects aimed at helping students who are experiencing or who are likely to experience social maladjustments or learning difficulties.

He or she may meet with adult students, as appropriate, to identify learning needs and provide strategies, assistive tools, organizational approaches and other supports that promote autonomy, participation and academic success.

He or she analyzes and recommends the purchase of learning materials, supplementary materials, equipment, software and program packages, provides advice on room layouts, and other resources that support access to learning.

He or she advises school staff on the means for integrating technology into teaching; he or she participates in carrying out related projects; he or she prepares and delivers training and information workshops on components of the program for integrating technology.

He or she collaborates with other school resources, partner organizations and the Ministère de l’Éducation.

He or she keeps current with research, legislation, MEQ guidance and recognized practices related to special education, adult learning, inclusive education, accommodations and evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

- A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably education.
- Experience in special education, inclusive education, or direct educational support of students with special education needs is required.
- Experience with adult learners, Adult General Education and/or Vocational Training is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Cree and French is an asset.
- Willingness to travel as required.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS Regular full-time position.

35 hours/week.
