Title: Elders’ Activity Assistant
Department: Community Programs
Status: Regular Part-time
Pay Grid: Salary Range 2 ($25.89 to $33.98 per hour)
Reports to: Elders, Youth & Neighborhood House Manager

Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of the Elders, Youth & Neighborhood House Manager, the Elders’ Activity Assistant assists the Elder’s Activity Coordinator in providing safe and culturally appropriate services and activities to Lil’wat Nation elders. The purpose is to facilitate improving or maintaining the spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being of the community elders, including those with special needs, through meaningful activities, whilst maintaining their independence, choice and dignity.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Assist in arranging all transportation coordination and maintain record keeping.
- Support a monthly schedule of activities, as well as regular luncheons and other social gatherings.
- Assist with annual participation in the Annual Elder’s Gathering.
- Help coordinate with Lil’wat Health and Healing the use of elders’ van to enable users to attend appointments, programs, etc.
- Assist in maintaining all files, records, and reports of the various activities and expenses.
- Support in researching funding sources and drafting proposals to cover the costs of attending events, gatherings, tours, etc.
- Provide communication support for the Elders Activity Coordinator.
- Assist the Elders Activity Coordinator and support the Community Programs Supervisor with arrangements for community events and/ or activities.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:
- Minimum of high school education.
- Post-secondary education in Social Services, Recreation, Event Planning, Senior Living Management or another relevant program is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Level One First Aid and CPR Training is an asset.
- Previous experience assisting with event planning or activity coordination is an asset. Particularly with an emphasis on elders or First Nations.
- Strong understanding and participation in Lil’wat Nation culture and traditions.
- Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to be sensitive to the needs, expectations, and opinions of clients.
- Good skills in conflict resolution, communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management.
- Can establish an open, trusting, non-judgmental relationship with clients while keeping safety at the forefront.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Highly qualified and confidential in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings as needed for special events and programs.
