Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, the Equipment Maintenance Associate will model and uphold the expectations of the Club, while presenting professional and friendly service to all Club Members, fellow staff, and outside vendors. This position will support the Manager to ensure that all Fitness Equipment within the entirety of the Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club facility is maintained and kept in optimal working order. This will be achieved all while adhering to Club Policies and Procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that all Fitness Equipment is inspected regularly, preventatively maintained, repaired, and replaced as required. This includes maintaining parts inventory and associated tools and working with the Manager to minimize repair expenses incurred to SVAC through careful coordination of third-party services and purchasing. A key secondary responsibility is to inspect, repair and maintain various elements of the facility itself through inspections and monthly checklists.
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of the functioning and operation of each piece of physical training equipment, as well as what the machines or exercises are designed to accomplish, is crucial.
- Responsible for maintaining a general understanding of all the operations within the Club and keeping yourself informed of current events and promotions.
- Required to follow all Occupational Health and Safety practices in accordance with industry standards, especially when handling chemicals, using step ladders, power tools,
and performing other potentially hazardous job-related activities.
- Periodically you may be asked to assist with the repair and/or diagnosis of other Club equipment and machinery within a reasonable scope of practice.
- Follow and complete a basic preventative maintenance schedule (i.e. dust removal under treadmill hoods, greasing rowers, etc.) in a timely fashion. This may include mechanical, electronic and upholstery repairs to various pieces of equipment as needed.
- Conduct a thorough Monthly Inspection of all Fitness Equipment to monitor for wear and tear and follow the Preventative Maintenance schedule.
- Responsible for coordinating the repairs to all fitness equipment in a timely fashion in one of the following ways:
- Identifying equipment that does not function properly and requires repair either through visual inspection or completing staff-generated Equipment Request Repair Forms (ERRF’s).
- Assist the Manager with parts ordering for replacement.
- Complete installation of all equipment parts while keeping SVAC Management updated as to the progress of the repairs.
- Responsible for documenting and tracking the repairs to all SVAC fitness equipment including frequency of servicing, warranty expirations, and serial numbers.
- Responsible for supporting the organization and maintenance of all parts inventory making recommendations for parts ordering as required.
- Maintain the filing and organization of all equipment manuals and warranties as well as the organization of the maintenance office itself.
- Required to work with and receive assistance from Sales Associates, Housekeeping, and Fitness departments.
- Complete monthly facility inspections for building and equipment maintenance.
- Attend all mandatory department meetings as scheduled (usually once per quarter), to keep informed of new operating procedures, departmental issues, and individual task assignments.
- Provide new initiatives and suggestions for improvements.
- Follow specific directions from the Facilities Manager to complete any “special projects” that fall within the responsibility of the Maintenance Department at SVAC.
Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Prior experience with gym equipment repair is an asset.
- Technically competent with strong problem-solving skills.
- Self-starter and valuable self-management skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Comfortable with climbing ladders and using tools.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel and Word).
- Well organized with keen attention to detail.
