FitzGerald and Snow (2010) Ltd. is a leader in the construction industry on Prince Edward Island and we are looking for the right individual to strengthen our estimating team at our Charlottetown office.
Position Overview The Estimator is responsible for preparing timely, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for tendered and negotiated construction projects, working closely with Project Managers, subtrades, and suppliers throughout the bidding process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates covering labour, material, equipment, and subtrade pricing
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications, using conventional and software-based methods
- Solicit, review, and compare pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project scope
- Assemble and submit competitive bids and tender packages within required deadlines
- Track industry pricing trends and maintain up-to-date cost data
- Collaborate with Project Managers to finalize scope, pricing, and sub-trade selection
- Incorporate addenda, drawing revisions, and scope changes into estimates
- Assist in the preparation of preliminary schedules and budgetary estimates
- Prepare proposals
- Support subcontract buyout and negotiations following award
- Compile and hand off complete bid/estimate packages to the Project Manager upon award to support project start-up
- Conduct post-bid reviews and maintain historical cost data to refine future estimates
Qualifications
- Construction & Technology Management diploma, Bachelor's degree in Construction Management/Engineering, or proven working experience in construction estimating
- 2+ years' experience in construction estimating (commercial, institutional, or industrial preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Proficiency with estimating/takeoff software and Microsoft Office
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to meet strict bid deadlines
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
Compensation & Schedule Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $70,000 - $110,000 yearly, commensurate with experience
Schedule: 8-hour shift, 40 hrs/week, Monday to Friday
