Job Information
The Family Preservation Worker provides direct support to parents and families involved with Child and Family Services (CFS), and reports to the Supervisor, Family Preservation. The position works with families in their homes and communities to strengthen parenting skills, promote healthy family functioning, and support family preservation and reunification. The position serves the four communities of the Tlicho region and works closely with CFS staff, families and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support, education and coaching to parents and families.
- Promote positive parenting, child development and healthy family relationships.
- Support culturally appropriate parenting practices.
- Provide advocacy and connect families with community resources.
- Deliver family-focused workshops and support activities.
- Promote family preservation and reunification.
- Participate in collaborative service planning and community-based initiatives.
- Apply legislation,
standards of practice and sound judgment when responding to complex family situations.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- A Diploma in Social Work, Child Development, Youth Care or Early Childhood Education; AND one (1) year of related experience. Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License (or equivalent).
EQUIVALENCIES MAY INCLUDE
- 2 years of direct related experience and class 5 driver license
- All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Working Conditions
- Works regularly with families experiencing stress and emotionally difficult situations.
- Requires strong communication, active listening and sound judgment.
- Approximately 10% travel may be required, including travel in poor road and weather conditions and by small aircraft
- Work occurs primarily in family homes and community settings.
