The Soap Dispensary and Kitchen Staples opened in 2011 to help usher in the consumer Zero Waste movement in Vancouver. As a refill shop and specialty grocer, we offer 800 bulk products to help our community divert waste and save resources. We partner with many local businesses, contribute to the local circular economy and inspire many individuals and businesses to reduce their environmental footprint.
Our success is measured in our day-to-day, in each container refilled and our team has a direct impact on these successes.
We are looking for someone to fulfill a variety of inventory tasks, package bulk products and provide general retail support when needed. Priorities may fluctuate depending on the needs of the shop and days of the week.
Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self starter who is adaptable and enjoys physical work in a busy, sometimes hectic workplace. Experience working in similar roles, especially in a grocery store or working with food is a great asset. Our ideal candidate also shares our Zero Waste values.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Weigh, redistribute and label bulk products as needed
- Prep and package bulk products, particularly food, into returnable containers
- Maintain and restock packaged products on retail floor and as back up in the back of house
- Maintain well stocked bulk containers throughout each shift
- Physically check,
receive and redistribute incoming deliveries from suppliers
- Maintain optimal stock levels by requesting bulk products from our warehouse and receiving them when they are transferred
- Perform rolling inventory counts as needed including weighing and counting stock
- Organize inventory in the stockroom
- Maintain a clean and organized workplace, storage area and auxiliary storage space at all times.
- May include washing and cleaning duties as needed
Follow safe work practices
Customer Service
- Support retail staff with customer requests or inquiries
- Be available on the retail floor to provide direct customer service support to the retail team during busy times
Employment Requirements
- Common food / grocery knowledge
- Basic math, conversions
- Proficient in reading and writing English
- BC Worksafe practices and familiar with basic material handling safety working procedures
- Zero waste practice knowledge an asset
- Driver's license an asset
Skills and Personal Qualities Needed:
- Organized and systematic with information / inventory
- Detail oriented and observant
- Able to work without supervision
- Entrepreneurial, self-starter
- Physically capable of heavy lifting (up to 50lb)
- Experience in Retail environment
- Enjoys physical work
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- Clean criminal record
- Secondary school diploma
- Serving It Right or other food safety training
- Legally permitted to work in Canada
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
