Position Purpose summary
New Directions Community Residential Facility, (CRF) provides residential support to adult male offenders who are conditionally released to the community. The role of the Head Housekeeper is to play a leadership role in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance of our facility.
Accountabilities:
Verbal and Written Communication:
- To complete monitoring checklists
- To ensure that supply lists are maintained and up to date.
- To report health and safety issues to a supervisor
Reporting:
- Complete supply monitoring forms; checklists and hazard reporting.
Duties:
- To maintain the upkeep of the facility including washing floors, sweeping, dusting and vacuuming.
- To coordinate room allocation with the Director or designate.
- To prepare rooms for incoming clients, including making beds and cleaning.
- To do change linens and make beds as required.
- To prepare garbage and recycling for pick-up.
- To maintain the general upkeep of the building and external property.
- To restock and distributes supplies.
- To be familiar with Fire Safety Plan and emergency procedures.
- To follow WHMIS guidelines for use and storage of chemicals used for cleaning and maintain records for housekeeping.
- To ensure that a maintenance log is kept up-to-date.
- To be able to life more than 20 pounds.
- To coordinate the housekeeping schedule under the direction of the supervisor.
- To participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Perform other position related duties as required

- Reports to the Director of Operations or designate
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Performs housekeeping and cleaning duties in a community residential facility for adult male offenders
- Duties require lifting up to 20 lbs.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- High School diploma (Education)
- Minimum 2years experience in housekeeping
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self motivated and disciplined
- Experience/Working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use
- Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Current First/Aid CPR certification
- Clearance through Corrections Canada, Enhanced Reliability screening is required
- Support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in housekeeping and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $20.77 to $21.02 with a maximum of $21.27.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
