Being a Health & Safety Systems Advisor – Contract with us means putting your practical health and safety expertise, coaching skills, and continuous improvement mindset to work to create a safer, stronger, and more disciplined manufacturing environment.

Working closely with the Director of Operations & Engineering, you will lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our workplace health and safety management system. You will play a key role in integrating safe work practices into daily operations, building the safety capabilities of supervisors and employees, supporting regulatory compliance, and progressively preparing the organization for eventual Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification.

This is an ongoing contract engagement averaging approximately 80–100 hours per month. Regular onsite presence is an essential part of the work to support operations, training, inspections, investigations, and employee engagement, while certain planning, analysis, documentation, and system-development activities may be completed offsite as appropriate.

Scope of Services:

- Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Health & Safety Management System.
- Maintain a regular shop-floor presence and work with supervisors, lead hands, and employees to integrate safe work practices into daily operations.
- Assess health and safety practices, identify priority gaps, and implement practical improvements in compliance, hazard control, training, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, hazard assessments, training requirements, and H&S; records.
- Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, establish corrective actions, and verify completion.
- Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Develop employee and supervisor capability through training, orientations, toolbox talks, coaching, and ongoing safety communication.
- Monitor Alberta occupational health and safety requirements and support inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.




- Establish and manage a multi-year roadmap toward COR readiness, including gap closure, internal reviews, and coordination with the appropriate Certifying Partner.
- Track key safety metrics, risks, corrective actions, and improvement priorities, and report progress to management.

Profile You are the person we are looking for if you possess:

- Relevant education or training in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Five (5) or more years of practical health and safety experience in manufacturing or a similar industrial environment, with demonstrated exposure to Alberta COR programs
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, or maintaining workplace health and safety management systems.
- Practical experience with hazard assessments, inspections, investigations, corrective actions, and training.
- Strong coaching, communication, and facilitation skills, with the ability to translate safety requirements into practical shop-floor expectations.
- Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to independently identify priorities and drive actions through completion.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to spend significant time in an active manufacturing workplace.

Assets:

- Experience in manufacturing, metal fabrication, assembly, warehousing, or industrial equipment.
- Experience conducting COR audits or leading an organization through COR readiness and certification.
- CRSP, CRST, Occupational Health & Safety Certificate/Diploma, or equivalent professional designation or education.
- Formal auditor, incident investigation, or safety training certification.




- Experience implementing health and safety systems within a small or mid-sized organization.
- Experience using AI / LLM tools to accelerate the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety systems, training, documentation, and reporting.
- Experience working within ISO 9001, Lean, or similar management systems and continuous improvement environments.
- Experience developing or managing safety KPIs, corrective action systems, or training matrices.
