We have been involved in many of Canada's most ambitious projects; from dams, bridges, energy transmission and distribution to railroads and transportation. We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
As a Jr. Product Design Engineer, you will report directly to the Engineering Technical Director. This role is being added to expand the team’s expertise in CableBuilder and its integration with SAP, ensuring knowledge transfer and continuity. Increasing new product design volumes, driven by the NAM growth plan, require additional engineering capacity to support demand and avoid design-phase bottlenecks
GETTING TO KNOW THE POSITION
One of the strategic orientations that Nexans pursues consists in capturing growth and differentiating its offer by escalading the value chain from the production of cables towards the provision of innovative cable systems and services and solutions to better address the current and future needs of our partners and customers.
The Jr. Product Design Engineer has to translate customer, internal,
and standard cable specifications into accurate CableBuilder designs and SAP Bills of Materials (BOMs). The role also owns and maintains SAP master data for all parts, excluding pricing, ensuring accurate and consistent product information across systems.
HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
Primary:
- Develop a high level of expertise in Cablebuilder software and its connection to SAP
- Design and modify cable designs in accordance to industry standards
- Maintain and improve SAP part master data
- Cooperate with manufacturing teams to process Manufacturing Process Changes
- Active participation on industry standards committee as deemed necessary
Secondary:
- Supervisor and perform cable testing as required by the manufacturing sites
- Manage projects on product development or redesign to cost. Some travel may be necessary.
- Provide support to Sales and manufacturing with processing and quality issues as required.
You will be expected to: The main goal of the position is the transfer of knowledge and risk mitigation of Cablebuilder/SAP skill set, and to manage part of the load for cable designs. The employee must obtain a high level of competency within one year.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE ?
KEY COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred P.Eng, Engineering degree
- Experience in the Wire and Cable industry with processing and product standards knowledge
- Robust interpersonal skills to coordinate the customer, sales and manufacturing groups
- Detail oriented with documentation
