Position Summary The Junior Project Manager / Project Coordinator supports the estimating, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout of structural steel and piping fabrication projects. The position works closely with estimating, engineering, procurement, quality and fabrication to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
This position is intended for an individual developing toward a Project Manager role and requires a combination of project coordination, commercial awareness, technical understanding, and estimating capability. The successful candidate will be comfortable reviewing structural and piping drawings, preparing material takeoffs and estimates, coordinating procurement and fabrication activities, tracking costs and progress, and communicating with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal departments.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Execution
· Assist with the execution of structural steel and piping fabrication projects from award through closeout.
· Review contracts, purchase orders, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and project requirements.
· Assist with project kickoff meetings and development of project execution plans (when required).
· Maintain project documentation, drawing registers, submittals, transmittals and change logs.
· Coordinate information between engineering, drafting, procurement, quality, fabrication and shipping.
· Monitor fabrication schedules and identify potential delays, material shortages, drawing constraints, or production bottlenecks.
· Assist with preparation and maintenance of fabrication schedules, look-ahead plans, progress reports, and client reporting.
· Coordinate material releases, fabrication priorities, subcontracted services, coatings, NDE, shipping, and delivery requirements.
· Participate in production & project coordination meetings and assist with project closeout and lessons learned.
Cost Control & Commercial Management
· Assist with establishing project budgets and cost codes.
· Track labour hours, material costs,
subcontract costs, equipment, freight, and other project expenditures against budget.
· Monitor committed costs and forecast cost-to-complete.
· Assist with earned value and progress measurement.
· Identify potential cost overruns and communicate concerns to the Operations Manager.
· Assist with preparation of change orders, extra work pricing, and supporting documentation.
· Maintain records supporting changes in scope, delays, impacts, and additional costs.
Estimating
· Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and client requirements.
· Perform structural steel and piping material takeoffs and develop preliminary Bills of Material and purchasing requirements.
· Estimate fabrication labour including material handling, processing, cutting, drilling, coping, fitting, welding, pipe fitting, assembly, NDE and shipping.
· Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
· Assist with estimating material pricing, labour hours, equipment, consumables, freight, subcontracting, overhead, contingency, and margin.
· Prepare pricing for project changes and additional work.
· Maintain historical cost and productivity information to improve estimating accuracy.
Technical Responsibilities
· Read and interpret structural, mechanical, piping, and fabrication drawings.
· Understand structural steel shapes, plate, grating, handrail, stairs, miscellaneous metals, piping materials, fittings, flanges, valves, and related components.
· Understand basic welding processes and fabrication sequencing.
· Review Bills of Material against drawings and specifications.
· Assist with material optimization and purchasing quantities to minimize crop and waste.
· Identify drawing discrepancies and coordinate RFIs or technical clarification.
Qualifications
Education: Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent fabrication and construction experience will also be considered.
Experience: 2-5 years of experience in structural steel, piping, industrial fabrication, construction, or a related workplace preferred. Previous estimating, project coordination, fabrication, or field experience is an asset.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
