Lead Maintenance Helper The Empire is looking for an experienced, dependable and hands-on Lead Maintenance Helper to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in keeping a building safe, well maintained and running smoothly. In addition to performing regular maintenance duties, the Lead Maintenance Helper is expected to independently assess and troubleshoot maintenance concerns, complete more involved repairs within the scope of the position, and respond effectively to unexpected or urgent building issues.
We are looking for someone with robust practical maintenance skills, sound judgment and problem-solving abilities who can work independently while also being a positive and reliable member of our team.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties of the Maintenance Helper position.
- Independently assess maintenance issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Troubleshoot maintenance concerns and identify root causes of more advanced issues.
- Carry out required repairs and maintenance work, including non-routine issues within scope.
- Complete assigned maintenance tasks in accordance with priorities established by the Manager.
- Respond to urgent or unexpected maintenance issues and determine appropriate action.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance support, including urgent or emergency situations as required.
- Conduct required weekly and monthly building safety inspections.
- Report inspection findings and outstanding issues to the Manager.
- Identify and report potential building and maintenance concerns proactively.
- Monitor maintenance supplies and advise the Manager of supply needs.
- Communicate maintenance and building-related issues to the Manager.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Previous maintenance, janitorial and/or groundskeeping experience; experience in a retirement residence is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to independently assess, troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and ability to identify the cause of maintenance concerns.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks based on direction from the Manager.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including extensive standing, walking, squatting and kneeling.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and shovel snow.
- Ability to safely operate motorized equipment such as lawn mowers, snow blowers and carpet cleaning equipment.
- Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
