Role Summary:
Our GTA Branch is looking for a Level 3 Fire Technician to join the team. The main job duties and responsibilities of this role are to carry out verifications, inspections, repairs and maintenance of fire alarm systems installed at our customers’ sites. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of various emergency systems such as emergency lighting and portable fire extinguishers.
On-call rotation would also be expected of the individual. This is an existing vacancy.
This role is a unionized position, and the successful candidate must be able to join the local union IBEW 353.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Inspection & Testing
- Conduct inspections of fire extinguishers and hoses where acceptable to the AHJ.
- Inspect and test emergency lighting equipment & exit luminaries.
- Inspect and Test all Fire Alarm Systems including Large Scale Networked fire alarm systems as defined in CAN/ULC-S524.
- Perform electrical testing on Sprinkler device circuits where necessary.
- Perform electrical testing of Kitchen Hood Suppression System circuits where necessary.
- Test signal receiving equipment for signal transmission.
- Generate AHJ compliant reports for all activities listed above.
Service & Maintenance
- Service and replace fire extinguishers and hoses where acceptable to the AHJ.
- Replace conventional and addressable fire alarm field devices.
- Repair or replace emergency lighting equipment & exit luminaires (e.g., batteries, bulbs, remote heads).
- Troubleshoot and repair all systems including Large Scale Networked Systems.
- Install system modifications on all systems except Large Scale Networked Systems
- Provide service using laptop configuration for conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.
- Use appropriate electronic tools, including multimeters, oscilloscope, tracers or other common electronic technology tools to diagnose and repair faults.
Verification
- Configure devices and equipment except large scale networks.
- Conduct verification on conventional and addressable fire alarm system field devices & control equipment except for large scale network systems.
- Assist in verification for large scale networked systems.
- Support system-wide testing on all fire alarm systems and interfaces including ULC-1001 testing support.
- Generate AHJ compliant reports for all of the above tasks
- Provide end user / operator training on equipment verified under this section
Leadership and coordination
- Lead inspections and testing teams; mentor junior technicians.
- Coordinate with facility, AHJ, and contractors for scheduling, impairment plans, and re-tests.
Qualifications: · Electrical/Electronic Technologist diploma or equivalent experience in low voltage control systems installation and repair.
· Certification in all Edwards fire alarm control panels provided by the company.
· Proficiency in oral and written communications in English.
· CFAA full registration required.
· Ensure compliance with safety codes, policy, and reporting standards during all work.
· Read and interpret riser diagrams, point-to-point, network topologies, and sequence of operations.
· Must have a valid Provincial Driver’s License with a positive driving record.
