Low Voltage Technician

Overview

Prairie Tech Service is a locally owned low voltage & tech installation and service company based out of Canora, Saskatchewan, serving residential, commercial and agricultural customers throughout Saskatchewan and Western Manitoba.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our growing team of field technicians.

This position is similar other trades such as telecom or electrical, but focused specifically on low-voltage technology. You will work hands-on agricultural technology systems, life safety devices. security systems, cameras, networking equipment and internet/connectivity systems.

New technicians will initially work alongside experienced technicians while learning our systems, installation standards and service procedures. As your skills and experience develop, you will transition into working independently in the field, completing service calls and installations and managing your own workday.

Prairie Tech provides the tools, equipment, training and certifications required for the position, along with a company work vehicle for field duties once the employee is ready to work independently.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in the electrical or skilled-trades field who also enjoys technology, troubleshooting and working with customers.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Install, service and troubleshoot integrated low voltage systems.
- Run, terminate, test and organize CAT5e, CAT6 and other low-voltage wiring.
- Work with relays, contacts, sensors, power supplies and other electrical components.
- Install and configure routers, switches, wireless access points and network equipment.
- Install and troubleshoot Starlink, rural Wi-Fi and internet connectivity systems.
- Install birdge kits and other long range rural connectivity projects.
- Diagnose wiring faults, communication issues and equipment failures.
- Upgrade and replace existing security and low-voltage systems.
- Program, configure and fully test installed equipment.
- Complete installations and service calls independently.
- Explain completed work and system operation to customers.
- Complete accurate digital service reports and documentation.
- Maintain tools, parts, equipment and company vehicle/inventory.
- Travel as required.





Training & Career Development Previous experience is an asset, but we are willing to train the right person.

You will receive hands-on training in the field and gain experience across a wide range of low-voltage systems and technologies.

Prairie Tech will provide or arrange the industry training and certifications required for the position.

The goal is to develop technicians who are capable of:

- Diagnosing problems independently.
- Planning and completing installations.
- Managing their own service calls.
- Communicating directly with customers.
- Making sound technical decisions in the field.
- Taking responsibility for the quality of their own work.

We are looking for someone who wants to learn the trade and eventually operate confidently and independently as a Prairie Tech technician. Tools & Vehicle

Prairie Tech supplies the equipment needed to perform the job, including:

- Company-provided tools and specialized testing equipment.
- Required safety equipment and certifications (Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platforms etc)
- Technical training.
- All required industry certifications
- Company work vehicle for technicians working independently in the field.
- Parts, materials and equipment required for assigned jobs.

Employees are expected to take care of company equipment and keep their tools and vehicle clean, organized, and properly stocked.

Who We’re Looking For

Experience in any hands-on trade is an asset, but EXPERIENCE NOT REQUIRED.

We will provide you with all the necessary resources required for a successfull career.

The right candidate will have:

- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Comfortable use of hand tools and power tools.
- Interest in electrical work or technology.
- Ability to understand wiring and basic electrical concepts.
- Robust troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.




- Ability to learn recent equipment and systems quickly.
- Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
- Dependability and willingness to take responsibility for assigned work.
- Ability to work on ladders and in indoor and outdoor environments, including crawl spaces and attics.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to travel and stay in hotels for extended periods.

What to Expect Prairie Tech is a field-service company. This is not an office or repetitive shop position.

Technicians work directly at customer locations including homes, businesses, farms and industrial facilities.

Travel is a regular part of the job, and the work changes from day to day. Some days may involve several service calls in multiple areas, while others may involve a larger long term project or travelling for extended periods. Irregular hours are to be expected.

Once fully trained, technicians are trusted to work independently, operate a company vehicle, communicate directly with customers and complete assigned installations and service calls from start to finish.
