Duties

We are looking for people who are team players. You will be working primarily at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site in St.Andrews, MB but may be required to assist with activities at any of the sites within the Manitoba South Region (Lower Fort Garry, St.Andrews Rectory, The Forks and Riel House).Your day-to-day duties may include Landscape maintenance (grass cutting, weed removal, leaf blowing, tree and shrubbery maintenance, etc.), pathway and road maintenance (gravel top-up and regrading, snow removal, sanding, etc.), equipment and small engine repair and maintenance, basic/ routine building maintenance and repair (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.), vandalism and graffiti maintenance/ removal, and event setup and support. You will conduct code-compliant inspections for equipment, machines and tools.

You will monitor the work of trades and contractors; you will provide access to facilities as required.Key activities of this position may include:

- Grass cutting, weed removal, grounds maintenance.
- Snow clearing, sanding and gravel top-ups.
- Small engine repair and maintenance.
- Equipment and vehicle maintenance.
- Event setup and support.
- Routine repairs and maintenance activities to buildings and grounds.
- Code-compliant, preventive maintenance and due diligence inspections to equipment and systems.
- Facilitating Contractor access to the sites for routine inspections and/ or repair work.

Work environment Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Unit manages a number of these assets and has employees located across the province.The Maintenance Worker position works primarily out of Lower Fort Garry and candidates will be expected to report to Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site (St. Andrews, MB). This process will be used to staff a full time, seasonal position, starting immediately. Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Will be required to work alone.
- Perform strenuous work including heavy lifting, kneeling down and standing for extended periods.
- Travel and work in various locations including remote sites.
- Travel and work shiftwork, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays and occasionally extended overnight stays.
- Willingness to obtain standard First Aid/CPR.
- Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform and PPE as per the uniform policy as per Parks Canada requirements.

EXPERIENCE





- Experience in general labouring tasks which would relate to one or more of the following: road maintenance, grounds and landscaping maintenance, equipment operations, and trades groups.
- Experience in the operation of various gas and diesel fuel equipment or machinery.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

- Training/ experience with general equipment and fleet repairs, including small engine maintenance.
- Training/ experience in general building repairs and maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Training/ experience with general grounds maintenance and landscaping.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of contemporary building systems (operations and office spaces).
- Knowledge of historic building construction and restoration, an asset but not required.
- Knowledge of maintenance tasks required for grounds, pathways and parking areas.
- Knowledge of general maintenance tasks for vehicles and equipment (light/ commercial fleet, light and heavy equipment).
- Knowledge of the safety requirements for fleet, equipment and building systems located on site.
