POSITION MANDATE The Materials Handler is responsible for preparing accurate, complete, and production-ready project kits by verifying, decanting, organizing, labeling, and staging electrical components, materials, drawings, Field Installation Work Packages (FIWPs), and related assembly information. This role supports efficient production flow by aligning kits to BOMs, project documentation, installation sequence, and point-of-use requirements while reducing material handling waste, workflow interruptions, and production delays.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Safety & Quality

- Comply with all safety and quality procedures.
- Handle, move, and store materials safely, and identify, segregate, and escalate nonconforming material in accordance with quality procedures.

Parts Kitting & Material Readiness

- Prepare projects by decanting materials based on project Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Identify and communicate BOM inaccuracies, quantity discrepancies, damaged materials, missing components, supplier issues, and engineering revision concerns before materials reach the production workface.
- Organize kits in a logical installation sequence so materials arrive at the workface verified, complete, clearly labeled, and ready for immediate use by the production team.
- Follow standardized kitting procedures, staging practices, labeling standards, and material handoff expectations to support repeatable and scalable manufacturing processes.

Documentation & Kit Information Control

- Ensure all required drawings, FIWPs, work instructions, and other pertinent assembly information are included with the project kit before release to production.
- Mark up BOMs (“red-penned”) to reflect as-built changes and submit updates to the Supervisor/Project Manager.

Inventory Management

- Assist with cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives as required.
- Manage consumable inventory by monitoring stock levels, organizing supplies, identifying replenishment needs, and reordering approved consumables as required to maintain adequate shop inventory.
- When material issues are identified on each project, notify the manufacturing supervisor of unused or excess materials, shortages, and damages.
- Support the project management and procurement teams with material returns or stocking of unrequired project materials.





Material Handling & Staging

- Stage materials at the appropriate point-of-use location to reduce unnecessary movement, duplicate handling, start/stop work cycles, and production delays.
- Use carts, totes, or forklifts/pallet jacks, if certified, to transport materials.
- Maintain organized, accessible, safe, and clearly labeled material areas, project carts, and kitting locations.
- Support shop staff by preparing materials for installation, including breaking down crates/boxes and disposing of packaging materials.

Shipping, Receiving & Cross-Functional Support

- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Receiving, Production, Supervisors, Project Managers, and Lead Assemblers to support material readiness, kit completeness, and timely issue resolution.
- Support receiving and shipping activities during absences, workload peaks, or material flow constraints, as required.
- Prepare completed projects and ship-loose materials for shipment in accordance with packaging and shipping standards.
- Secure, protect, clean, and package completed projects for transport, including shrink wrapping when required.
- Maintain packaging tools, supplies, and work areas in an organized and ready-to-use condition.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow BOMs, packing slips, and SOPs.
- Ability to interpret project documentation, drawings, FIWPs, material lists, design revisions, installation sequence requirements, and work package expectations.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and documentation practices, including traceability, controlled forms, revision control, and proper handling of nonconforming material.
- Basic understanding of electrical components and hardware (e.g., resistors, connectors, wire, terminals, nuts & bolts) is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade schooling is an asset.
- Experience in materials kitting, material handling, inventory control, or warehouse operations is considered an asset, preferably within an electrical manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with electrical components and part identification is a strong asset.
- Valid forklift certification considered an asset.
- Ability to use pallet jacks correctly and safely.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Materials, kits, drawings, FIWPs, work instructions, and project documentation are accurate, complete, organized, and ready for production use.
- Kits are verified, sequenced, clearly labeled, and staged at the correct point-of-use location before production work begins.
- Material readiness issues,



discrepancies, shortages, damages, and nonconformances are identified early and escalated promptly to reduce delays, rework, and workflow interruptions.
- Approved shop consumables are monitored and reordered as required to maintain adequate stock and support uninterrupted production.
- Tasks are prioritized to support production schedules, quality expectations, and required delivery timelines.
- Material areas, carts, kits, tools, and supplies are maintained in a clean, safe, organized, and ready-to-use condition.
- Work is performed in compliance with safety, quality, 5S, lean manufacturing, and material handling procedures.
- Effective communication and coordination are maintained with supervisors, production schedulers, project managers, procurement, receiving, and lead assemblers.

JOB SCOPE The Materials Handler supports manufacturing performance by ensuring materials are accurate, complete, organized, and ready for production when required. The role contributes to improved workflow continuity, reduced production delays, stronger inventory accuracy, and more efficient use of assembler, supervisor, and project management time.

Success in this position is measured by the reliability of material readiness, the accuracy and completeness of project kits, the condition and organization of staging areas, the timely replenishment of approved shop consumables, and the ability to prevent material-related interruptions before they impact production.

EFFORT

Work is performed in a manufacturing facility and may involve exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
