: Mechanical Drafter / Estimator
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Drafter / Estimator who has a passion for working with customers to solve problems with their machines, mechanical components, and industrial equipment. This role requires you utilize your strong problem-solving skills to help develop technical solutions using CAD software, a working knowledge of machining, welding and metal fabrication processes, and the ability to research and source raw materials and components in a timely manner. After a technical solution developed, you will calculate the costs and present the customer with an estimate or quotation.
Key Responsibilities
· Produce 2D mechanical drawings, 3D models, and assembly layouts for parts, systems and equipment
· Incorporate knowledge of machining, welding, and fabrication practices into product designs
· Develop repair methodologies for customer parts, equipment, and mechanical systems
· Select and source raw materials and components
· Inspect customer components to gain information to create sketches, drawings, and shop instructions
· Prepare detailed estimates and quotations for customer projects
· Provide on-site support at customer location to gather technical requirements and information
· Prepare and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), revision control, and drawing files
· Utilize 3D printers to develop prototypes and validate design concepts prior to production
Qualifications
· Diploma, certificate, or equivalent training in Mechanical Design/Drafting Technology or related field.
· Prior experience in manufacturing environment highly desirable
· Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar)
· Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on knowledge of metal fabrication and repair processes
· Positive problem-solving skills with the ability to think practically
· Strong organizational skills, strict attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
· Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a team environment in a time sensitive environment
· Knowledge of metals and their applications is an asset (steel, aluminum, brass, etc.)
· Knowledge of configuration control and engineering change management practices is considered an asset
Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 a year
