Medical Director, Neuroscience

SUMMARY The Medical Director leads the Neuroscience Medical Affairs team and develops the strategic medical plan to address the scientific needs of healthcare professionals and key stakeholders. The role builds robust relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, contributes to global Medical Affairs initiatives, and oversees medical education, clinical research and real-world evidence generation.

The Medical

Director also supports clinical protocol implementation, investigator recruitment and Phase IV study planning while establishing clear standards and consistent Medical Affairs practices across therapeutic areas and cross-functional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as the scientific and medical expert for the Neuroscience portfolio, supporting Regulatory Affairs, Value, Access & Pricing, Commercial and other functions across the organization.
- Develop and execute the Neuroscience Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with the company’s objectives, portfolio priorities and global Medical Affairs plans.
- Lead the Neuroscience Medical Affairs team, including Medical Science Liaisons, Medical Managers and Medical Associates, across field and head office activities.
- Recruit, onboard, coach and develop Medical Affairs team members. Establish objectives, assess performance, identify development needs and create continuous learning opportunities.
- Ensure operational excellence across the MSL team, including the execution of field activities, scientific exchange, insight collection, field coaching and reporting.
- Build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, healthcare professionals and other external experts at the national, regional and local levels.
- Gather and communicate insights from healthcare professionals and the scientific community to inform Medical Affairs strategy, evidence-generation plans and broader business decisions.




- Lead the development and delivery of medical education, Continuing Medical Education, healthcare professional training, congress and national expert engagement plans.
- Support scientific exchange by providing healthcare professionals with current, accurate and fair-balanced medical, scientific and health economics and outcomes research information.
- Develop and execute the strategic evidence-generation plan, including clinical research, real-world evidence and other initiatives designed to address identified scientific and data gaps.
- Support Canadian commercial and lifecycle-management activities, including advisory boards, medical review, pricing and reimbursement preparation, regulatory interactions and clinical trials conducted in Canada.
- Develop, review and approve scientific and non-promotional materials for field and internal use.
- Collaborate with Canadian and global colleagues across Medical Affairs, Medical Information, Scientific Communications, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial and Value, Access & Pricing to align plans and coordinate execution.
- Manage departmental resources, budgets and priorities to ensure the effective delivery of Medical Affairs objectives.
- Ensure all Medical Affairs activities comply with applicable laws, regulatory and ethical guidelines, company policies and standard operating procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

- Advanced scientific terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) or MSc with relevant experience.
- 5+ years of industry or related experience, with at least 3 years of experience as an MSL.




- Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills required.
- A team player who is strategic and excels in a collaborative team environment.
- Experience managing a team, including hiring, training and successfully onboarding MSLs, is preferred.
- Prior experience within the pharmaceutical industry managing a medical team; Associate Directors, Medical Science Liaison’s, etc.
- Prior drug launch experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in Neuroscience.

- Proven track record of exceeding expectations against qualitative and quantitative metrics and driving MSL performance.
- Thorough understanding of compliance requirements, regulatory and ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and clinical trial conduct, with the ability to ensure compliance with both external requirements and internal company guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection and development of field reports, slide content, strategy and review, and dissemination of medical information.
- Strong computer skills, including applications for word processing, presentation development, spreadsheets and other pharmaceutical industry platforms.
