Job Overview
Positive Living Niagara is seeking a dedicated and passionate Naloxone Training Specialist to support opioid overdose prevention and harm reduction education throughout the Niagara Region.
The Naloxone Training Specialist will provide education, training, and presentations to community members, service providers, organizations, and individuals on opioid overdose prevention, recognizing and responding to an overdose, and the use of naloxone. The position will also support broader harm reduction education and community capacity-building.
Key Responsibilities
1. Naloxone Training & Overdose Prevention a. Provide education and training on opioid overdose prevention, recognition, and response.
b. Train individuals and groups on the proper use and administration of naloxone.
c. Distribute naloxone kits and maintain accurate records and inventory.
d. Facilitate presentations and workshops for community members, service providers, shelters, agencies, and other stakeholders.
e. Adapt training content to meet the knowledge, experience, and needs of different audiences.
f. Provide verbal and written education related to substance use, overdose prevention, and harm reduction.
g. Promote evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centred approaches to substance use health.
2. Community Education & Capacity Building a. Build relationships with community organizations and service providers to increase access to overdose prevention education and naloxone.
b. Provide individual and group education on harm reduction, safer substance use, and overdose prevention.
c. Support organizations in developing confidence and capacity to respond to opioid overdoses.
d. Participate in community events, awareness initiatives, and educational activities related to overdose prevention and harm reduction.
e. Support the development and delivery of educational resources and materials.

Collaboration & Advocacy a. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
b. Promote harm reduction principles and evidence-based substance use health practices.
c. Support community partners in connecting individuals with appropriate harm reduction, health, and social services when needed.
d. Participate in relevant community and provincial initiatives related to overdose prevention and harm reduction.
4. Documentation & Reporting a. Maintain accurate records of training sessions, naloxone distribution, and program activities.
b. Prepare reports and documentation as required for agency and funder reporting.
c. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Positive Living Niagara policies and procedures.
d. Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program planning.
Qualifications
- College or university education in social services, health services, education, or a related field, with experience in addictions, mental health, harm reduction, or community-based services.
- Valid G licence with a clear Drivers Abstract
- Experience providing education, training, presentations, or workshops.
- Experience working within a harm reduction framework.
- Knowledge of opioid overdose prevention, naloxone administration, and safer substance use practices.
- Lived or living experience with substance use, HIV, mental health, or related experiences is highly valued.
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to adapt information and training approaches to diverse audiences.
- Robust organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with community partners.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred, and non-judgmental approaches.
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.
- Current vulnerable sector check required (within 6 months).
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of harm reduction and evidence-based substance use health.
- Knowledge of opioid overdose prevention and naloxone.
- Experience delivering community education and/or professional training.
- Robust verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate both small-group and large-group presentations.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community organizations and stakeholders.
- Commitment to reducing stigma and promoting equitable access to health and social services.
