The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is the largest electrical labour union in North America, representing over 820,000 members and retirees. Our Team:
IBEW Local 1687 encompasses a very large jurisdiction in Northeastern Ontario. Our office is located in Sudbury, Ontario, but we represent over 700 members who reside in places like Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, North Bay, Powassan, Timmins, Cochrane, Parry Sound, Hearst, Kapuskasing, etc.
We represent electricians, powerline technicians, network cabling specialists, apprentices, equipment operators, groundworkers, etc. Within the office, we are a small team of six (6) who facilitate the day-to-day operations. Our team includes three IBEW representatives and three administrative personnel.
The Prospect:
We are currently seeking a full-time Office, Pension, and Benefits Administrator to joint our team in Sudbury.
Accountabilities:
- Read and interpret health & welfare and pension plan texts;
- Verify, monitor, and administer health & welfare and pension plan member eligibility, onboarding, life events, and offboarding;
- Maintain plan member records in multiple electronic database and hard copy filing systems;
- Manage in accordance with pension plan texts and Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA);
- Prepare, review,
and distribute annual health & welfare and pension statements;
- Communicate with and facilitate requests of plan members, custodian, consultants, actuaries, legal, and third-party benefit providers;
- Managing day-to-day administrations, monthly plan operations, and year-end reporting;
- Collaborate with other departments, and provide support outside of core responsibilities;
- Establish work priorities and ensure procedures are followed and deadlines are met;
- Receive walk-in traffic and assist with in-person questions and requests;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:
Education
- The successful candidate will possess a College Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent
Experience
- The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant office experience in benefits administration, human resources, bookkeeping, or similar roles.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook);
- Competence in Sage 50 Accounting software;
- Exceptional spreadsheet and database management capabilities;
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign considered and asset.
Skills and Experience That Will Lead to Success:
- Strong working knowledge of benefits administration and bookkeeping principles and practices;
- Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment;
- Skilled courteous customer-service orientated skills are a must;
- Advanced Microsoft Access and Excel training;
- Strict respect for confidentiality and adherence to PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) guidelines;
- Detail orientated;
- Capacity to quickly adapt to frequent interruptions while adhering to proper procedures on multi-process tasks;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize concurrent deadlines;
- Bilingual (English/French) an asset.

This position is covered under the collective agreement between IBEW 1687 and IAMAW.
Pay: $65,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
