OakHaven Academy for Diverse Learners is a small independent elementary school providing a supportive, individualized learning environment for neurodiverse students. We are seeking a caring, creative, and enthusiastic educator to join our collaborative team.

This position would be well suited to a Child and Youth Care (CYC) qualified, or Educational Assistant (EA), or Early Childhood Educator (ECE/RECE) with experience working with young children and an interest in supporting neurodiverse learners.

The Role The successful candidate will work primarily with children aged approximately 5–7 years in a small group setting and report into the principal. Working alongside teachers and Child and Youth Workers, the successful candidate will support students' communication, early academic skills, social development, independence, and daily routines.

A key part of the role will be working with our educators to createengaging, hands-on activities that capture students' interests and encourage participation, communication, and learning.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities supporting early literacy, numeracy, fine motor activities, communication, social-emotional skills, and independence within the evidence-based approaches chosen for OakHaven Academy.
- Use play-based, hands-on, and multisensory approaches to encourage participation and learning.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students and celebrate individual strengths and progress.
- Support classroom routines, transitions, self-help skills, and daily living skills.
- Adapt activities and expectations to meet individual student needs.




- Collaborate positively and effectively with teachers and other members of the OakHaven team.
- Help maintain a calm, predictable, and welcoming learning environment.
- Participate in school activities, community outings, and special events as appropriate.
- Assist with administrative duties for the program as required, including but not limited to preparing classrooms, materials, and activities for program delivery and engagement of students, and distributing, undertaking, and analyzing evaluation and to individualized learning and Success Plans.
- Assess needs, set goals, formulate plans of action for individual student improvement, in consultation with the Principal, and follow up and provide feedback on student progress.
- Participate in staff meetings and embrace professional development in order to remain at the cutting edge of instructional practice and pedagogy for students with learning disabilities and other neurodiverse conditions.
- Undertake Health and Safety, Human Resources, and other training required by the organization

Qualifications & Assets Applicants may have a background in:

- Child and Youth Care (CYC)
- Educational Assistant (EA)
- Early Childhood Educator (ECE/RECE)
- A related field with relevant experience working with children




- Must complete an updated Vulnerable Sector Check

The following would be solid assets:

- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Knowledge of or experience with ABA principles, structured learning and strategies
- Experience supporting communication skills for young children
- Experience working with neurodiverse learners or children with diverse learning needs
- Familiarity with visual supports, sensory strategies, structured routines, or other supportive strategies
- Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development

Our Environment OakHaven's small group model allows educators to develop meaningful relationships with students and provide individualized support. Staff work collaboratively as a team, with small groups of students and a combination of teachers, ECEs, Educational Assistants, and Child and Youth Workers.
