We are a new family medicine clinic in Milton seeking a dedicated and compassionate Phlebotomist / Medical Office Assistant to join our team. In this dynamic role, you will play a vital part in delivering exceptional patient care — performing blood draws and specimen collection, supporting the physician clinically, and keeping a busy medical office running smoothly.
You will be the first person our patients meet, and your energy, attention to detail and commitment to patient comfort will shape their experience of the clinic.
Duties The candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Collect blood samples using proper phlebotomy technique, ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing and courier pickup, following all safety and quality protocols
- Greet, register and triage patients into exam rooms; assist with check-in and check-out and verify health cards
- Take vitals, weight and height
- Administer vaccinations and intramuscular injections (e.g. vitamin B12)
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, and assist the physician with clinical tasks
- Prepare and maintain accurate charts in the EMR
- Scan incoming documents into charts using the EMR; send and track outgoing referrals
- Handle a high volume of phone calls and incoming faxes; schedule and confirm appointments
- Clean, disinfect and prepare exam rooms and equipment before each patient, in compliance with infection control practices
- Support inventory management of medical supplies and materials
- Provide excellent patient care by answering questions,
explaining procedures and educating patients on pre-procedure and follow-up instructions
- Collaborate with the physician to keep the workflow efficient and the records accurate
Skills
- Prior clinical experience of at least 1 year in a medical office, clinic or hospital setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate patient care with excellent communication skills
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care protocols
- Comfortable with EMR charting and computer scheduling
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of healthcare safety standards and infection control practices
- A explicit vulnerable sector check
Preferred
- Oscar Pro EMR experience — strongly preferred
- Experience with phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary collection, is a plus
- Laboratory experience including specimen handling and processing is a strong plus
- Certification or training in basic life support (BLS) is a plus but not mandatory
- Certification or background in healthcare or a related field is advantageous
- A second language spoken by our community
