Our operations include shot blasting, stress relieving, fitting, welding, machining, non‑destructive testing, final paint, and our own logistics network, delivering high‑value finished items across many diverse sectors directly to our customers.
Southwestern Manufacturing Inc. is seeking 1 permanent full‑time (minimum of 40–50 hours per week) Plasma Operator to start as soon as possible. We have openings on afternoon shift. Southwestern Manufacturing typically operates on rotating shifts of days and afternoons. Our facility is located in Windsor, Ontario.
Role Overview The Plasma Operator is responsible for the safe and accurate operation of CNC and/or manual plasma cutting equipment to cut metal materials according to specifications. This role requires solid attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints, and adherence to quality and safety standards to ensure precision‑cut components meet production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work instructions
- Set up, operate, and monitor plasma cutting machines (manual or CNC)
- Load and position metal materials using cranes or lifting devices as required
- Measure and inspect cut parts to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality
- Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting
- Ensure proper material handling, part identification, and housekeeping
- Follow all safety procedures and quality control standards
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of plasma cutting processes, equipment, and tooling
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measuring devices
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Able to stand for extended periods and work in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to meet tight production deadlines while maintaining accuracy
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience operating plasma cutting equipment preferred
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English to safely follow work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent
- Experience with CNC plasma tables considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Shop environment with exposure to noise, sparks, heat, metal dust, and moving equipment
- Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a solid attention to detail
