Empower Youth as a Take the LEAD Program Leader: Join LiftED as a Program Leader for Take the LEAD: A Community Action Club, and help shape the next generation of changemakers. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with young people as they develop leadership skills, explore social justice issues, and learn to advocate for meaningful change in their communities. Details:
Part time contract (6-8 hours per week)
Dates: October to April
Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays after school (times vary based on school)
Compensation: $850 per month (for two 2-hour sessions per week and any needed prep)
Locations:Take the LEAD runs in 5 locations in Toronto:
- Driftwood Public School
- Rose Avenue Jr. Public School
- Woburn Jr. Public School
- Henry Hudson Sr. Public School
- Thorncliffe Park Public School. (Paused for the 2025-2026 school year)

Program Description
Guide youth in grades 6-8 through a dynamic curriculum focused on developing key leadership skills. Leaders should tailor their approach to meet the unique needs of each participant.
Key topics include
- Exploring various leadership styles
- Engaging in community exploration and discussions
- Identifying and analyzing local issues
- Designing and implementing action plans for positive change
As part of the program, youth collaborate to create a Community Action Plan, addressing a specific challenge within their neighborhood. Program Leader Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Attend the pre-program session and periodic staff meetings
- Implement the leadership for youth, following the provided curriculum and modifying it based on student needs
- Contribute to building a welcoming,
engaging, and empowering program culture for all participants and colleagues.
- Create a safe and positive learning environment for children and youth volunteers
- Implement positive, safe routines and procedures throughout the program
- Administer and manage assessments and student surveys at the beginning and end of the program
- Read and sign LiftED Communication and Behaviour policies and LiftED Program Handbook
- Coordinate field trips and guest speakers aligned to the curriculum
- Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis, including attendance and behaviour concerns (when applicable)
- Communicate with LiftED staff (Program Director and Coordinator) with regards to safety concerns and updates
- Attend and supervise students on a trip in April where youth present their community action plans (TBC - will plan to host a day trip sometime on a Saturday in April to Downtown Toronto City Hall)
- Actively supervise students during sessions and field trips
Qualifications
- 1-3 years’ experience as a teacher, youth program leader or facilitator, camp leader, sports coach AND/ORuniversity student studying Education, Social Work, Community Development, or other related fields
- Strong passion for and commitment to supporting youth in developing their capacity as leaders in their school and the broader community
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, encourage youth involved in after-school programs
- Demonstrated ability to create a positive, learning, student-focused environment
- Enthusiastic, fun, and creative approach to teaching
- Experience working in a multicultural marginalized and racialized setting with an understanding of community development
- Provide an updated vulnerable sector police check
- Local knowledge of the community in which the program is run would be an asset
