We are seeking a Research Manager with a Chemical Engineering (or engineering, in general) background to lead and support R&D; activities, with a robust emphasis on laboratory experimentation, experimental design, data analysis, and translation of scientific findings into practical engineering applications. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who enjoys both understanding the science behind a problem and figuring out how to test it experimentally.
Position Overview
This role will lead and support research and development activities in the area of heat transfer and bulk-liquid transport. This includes technical evaluations, experimental research, process optimization, and validation of new applications using E M Fluids technology. The Research Manager will work across laboratory, pilot, and field applications to translate research findings into practical engineering solutions for industrial and water-related applications.
Key Responsibilities
This role is well suited to a technically strong scientist or engineer with experience in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline, and a demonstrated ability to design and conduct controlled laboratory experiments.
The Research
Manager, working with the RD team, will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing laboratory and applied research programs. They will be expected to move comfortably between developing experimental plans, operating laboratory equipment, analyzing data, troubleshooting experimental systems, and communicating results.
Experience working with industrial processes, treatment systems, process equipment, or technology commercialization will be considered a strong asset.
Research & Experimental Development
- Design, develop, and execute laboratory experiments and applied research studies.
- Develop experimental protocols,
standard operating procedures, test plans, and quality-control procedures.
- Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, pumps, sensors, analytical instruments, and experimental systems.
- Investigate physicochemical, chemical, and biological processes relevant to variable applications
- Translate laboratory findings into practical field and engineering applications.
- Assist with development and evaluation of pilot-scale experimental systems, as needed
- Work with engineering and operations teams to understand process requirements and system limitations.
- Evaluate technology performance under real-world operating conditions.
Data Analysis & Technical Reporting
- Work with the internal RD team to identify trends, experimental limitations, and sources of variability
- Prepare technical reports, research summaries, presentations, and scientific documentation.
- Communicate research findings clearly to internal teams and research partners
- Contribute to scientific publications, grant applications, technical proposals, and intellectual property development where appropriate.
Research Management
- Manage multiple research projects from experimental design through data analysis and reporting.
- Coordinate laboratory activities and ensure experiments are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Manage research documentation, laboratory records, protocols, and experimental datasets.
- Identify technical challenges and develop practical solutions to keep projects moving forward.
Qualifications
- Master's or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience designing and conducting laboratory experiments.
- Strong understanding of experimental design, scientific methodology, and data interpretation.
- Ability to troubleshoot experimental setups and identify technical sources of error.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Experience analyzing and presenting scientific data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage research projects while working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate scientific documentation.
Preferred Qualifications & Assets The following experience would be considered a significant asset:
- Industrial experience in chemical processing, environmental engineering, water/wastewater treatment, process engineering, or related industries.
- Experience with pilot-scale or industrial-scale process systems (e.g., fluid handling, heat transfer, mass transfer, reactors, or other process equipment)
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, or process control.
