The base salary will be $76,490 - $109,190 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us

IMMUNEQUITY is a new, large-scale international research program focused on advancing cutting-edge, affordable, and accessible approaches to HIV cure. The interdisciplinary research team spans Canada and sub-Saharan Africa and brings together biomedical engineers and biophysicists, immunologists, virologists, clinicians, economists, legal experts, community partners, biotechnology companies, and external foundations. The program is advancing promising HIV immunotherapies while addressing the cost, manufacturing, monitoring, and delivery challenges that currently limit broader access. Frugal innovation is central to this work, guiding the development of sustainable, high-performance technologies to support treatment production, monitoring, and delivery in low-resource settings. The team will also address the intellectual property, regulatory, and healthcare policy considerations needed to support equitable access to HIV cure therapies across sub-Saharan Africa. Together, these efforts aim to move promising HIV cure strategies from scientific discovery toward practical, scalable, and equitable implementation.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate applies advanced scientific expertise to support the development, implementation, and advancement of innovative HIV cure strategies within IMMUNEQUITY, a multi-institutional international research initiative focused on equitable access to HIV cure therapies. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the role provides scientific leadership in the design, execution, analysis, and translation of research activities, contributing to the achievement of project objectives across multiple interdisciplinary themes. The Research Associate conducts and oversees complex experimental research, develops and optimizes methodologies, analyzes and interprets scientific data, and contributes to the development of publications, grant applications, regulatory documentation, and knowledge translation materials. Working collaboratively with researchers, trainees, international partners,



industry collaborators, and multidisciplinary project teams in Canada and Uganda, the role contributes to scientific innovation, capacity building, and the advancement of scalable and accessible HIV cure technologies.

Qualifications

Education:

- PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline with expertise in virology and/or immunology
- Postdoctoral experience in HIV research, immunotherapy, virology, vaccines, immunology, stem cell biology, gene therapy, biologics, or translational biomedical research preferred
- Experience working within CL2 and/or CL3 laboratory environments preferred
- Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific dissemination activities preferred

Experience:
- 5 years of experience in a related academic, healthcare, biotechnology, or research environment with evidence of an independently developed research portfolio
- Experience designing, conducting, and interpreting complex laboratory-based research studies
- Experience working with HIV, viral pathogens, immunotherapies, biologics, or related biomedical research in a CL2 and/or CL3 laboratory environment
- Experience preparing manuscripts, scientific reports, grant applications, ethics submissions, and research presentations
- Experience mentoring or supervising students, trainees, or research personnel
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary or multi-institutional research initiatives preferred
- Experience collaborating with international research partners preferred
- Experience working within translational research environments involving biotechnology, therapeutics, or product development preferred
- Experience with advanced statistical analysis, bioinformatics, data analytics, or management of complex research datasets preferred
- Experience supporting regulatory submissions, biosafety compliance, or research ethics processes preferred
- Experience participating in large externally funded research programs preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment and with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals
- In depth knowledge with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
- Familiarity with techniques for updating,



managing and extracting data from a research database
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users and with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the research group’s events and activities
