THE ROLE The Research Officer - Human Performance helps shape the future of the Canadian Armed Forces by delivering evidence-based research services to support fitness assessment, training, and operational readiness. As part of the innovative virtual Pre-Basic Military Training (Pre-BMT) Fitness Readiness Program, you will play a critical role in preparing future CAF members for the physical demands of military service before they arrive at Basic Military Qualification (BMQ). Your work will contribute to reducing training attrition, enhancing the recruit experience, and supporting CAF reconstitution by strengthening the organization's ability to generate resilient, capable, and mission-ready personnel for the future.





The role conducts laboratory exercise testing; develops individualized and group training programs; and contributes to data collection design and methodology for physical fitness maintenance, and selection standards. The position evaluates emerging methods and external programs, translates findings into recommendations and briefings, and oversees employees, budgets, and compliance.

Qualifications Needed

Education, Certifications and Licenses

Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Sciences or a related field AND some years of experience in a related field

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Sciences or a related field AND several years of experience in a related field

AND

Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification (asset)

Basic Life Support (BLS CPR) and First Aid certification

Experience In conducting laboratory fitness appraisals In managing the operations of a high performance laboratory In developing and implementing training programs In developing and implementing policies and procedures for physical fitness evaluations, programs and training In developing, producing and publishing promotional materials In developing research hypotheses, designs and methodologies In data collection and compilation of research data In using statistical software programs In planning and conducting presentations In personnel administration In budget administration

English Essential or French Essential. Bilingual (English and French) an asset

Other Information

This is a hybrid position with an assigned work location allowing the employee to work partly from a corporate office and partly from a home office in accordance with the CFMWS Flexible Work Options Policy, and with approval from the direct manager.
