Pears Restaurant
Salary: $65,000–$70,000 per year, based on experience
About the Role
Pears Restaurant is looking for an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead the restaurant’s day-to-day operations, team, and guest experience.
This is a key leadership position responsible for creating a strong restaurant culture, maintaining exceptional hospitality standards, and ensuring the business performs operationally and financially.
The ideal candidate is a confident restaurant leader who understands that great hospitality comes from strong systems, engaged teams, attention to detail, and consistent execution. You will take ownership of the restaurant's overall performance while working closely with the culinary team and senior management to continuously improve the business.
Key Responsibilities
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operation and performance of Pears, including:
- Lead, motivate, and develop both front-of-house and back-of-house teams while creating a positive, accountable, and high-performing restaurant culture.
- Ensure every guest receives a consistently elevated and welcoming dining experience.
- Maintain high standards for service, food quality, cleanliness, restaurant presentation, and overall brand execution.
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop restaurant employees and managers.
- Manage employee scheduling while balancing operational requirements, service standards, and labour targets.
- Conduct regular performance conversations and address performance or behavioural concerns when required.
- Monitor daily and weekly sales, labour, food costs, COGS, operating expenses, and other key restaurant performance indicators.
- Identify performance gaps and implement clear action plans to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, waste control, and product availability.
- Ensure opening, closing, cash-handling, reconciliation, inventory, and operational procedures are completed accurately and consistently.
- Work closely with the culinary team to ensure strong communication and coordination between FOH and BOH.
- Handle guest concerns professionally and proactively, turning service challenges into positive guest experiences.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, health and safety, liquor regulations, employment standards, and company policies.
- Ensure restaurant equipment, facilities, and operating areas are properly maintained and immediately escalate any issues requiring attention.
- Manage private dining, events, promotions, partnerships, and other initiatives designed to increase restaurant traffic and revenue.
- Review restaurant performance regularly and provide senior management with clear updates regarding sales, staffing, operations, challenges, and action plans.
- Maintain a strong leadership presence on the floor during peak periods and actively support the team when required.
What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who leads by example and takes genuine ownership of the restaurant.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or senior restaurant manager.
- Experience within an upscale, premium-casual, fine-dining, or high-volume restaurant environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people-management skills.
- A proven ability to build engaged teams and maintain accountability.
- Strong understanding of restaurant financials, including labour, food cost, inventory, COGS, sales, and operating expenses.
- Experience managing schedules and controlling labour while maintaining strong service levels.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong guest-service instincts and the ability to professionally manage difficult situations.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to restaurant cleanliness, presentation, and operational standards.
- Ability to prioritize and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- A hands-on management style and willingness to support the team wherever needed.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak restaurant periods as required.
- Smart Serve certification or the ability to obtain certification.
