Do you love digging into the numbers, solving complex accounting problems, and figuring out why something doesn’t tie? We’re hiring a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team!

ToursByLocals is an online travel marketplace; our platform connects discerning travellers in search of customized, private tours with handpicked tour guides, providing meaningful and memorable travel experiences in over 170 countries, worldwide. We believe in keeping travel human: our global team of nearly 100 people support and engage our customers as they search for out-of-the-ordinary travel experiences. You can learn more about our hiring process here.

This is a full-time remote position, based in Canada. You must be legally able to work in Canada. We are unable to sponsor candidates at this time.

As a Senior Accountant at ToursByLocals, you’ll be a strong, hands-on technical accountant responsible for complex accounting areas, month-end and year-end close, revenue accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations. Reporting to the Controller, you’ll dig into complex or messy accounting issues, break them down into their underlying drivers, and work systematically to get to the root cause.

Your work will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of our accounting while making our processes more efficient, automated, and scalable. If you enjoy getting into the details, solving difficult problems, and finding better ways to get the work done, apply below!

Your primary goal will be to ensure accurate, timely accounting while solving complex issues at their source. Here’s how you’ll do that:

- Lead key accounting and close activities – coordinate month-end and year-end close, prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies through to resolution.
- Own complex technical and revenue accounting – lead revenue recognition and deferred revenue accounting, research technical accounting matters, and apply appropriate accounting guidance to complex and non-routine transactions.
- Support multi-entity financial reporting – oversee intercompany accounting, consolidations, eliminations, foreign currency transactions, and financial reporting across multiple entities and currencies.
- Support audits, treasury,

and controls – lead subsidiary and entity-level audits, support the consolidated annual audit, and contribute to cash management, cash-flow forecasting, tax and regulatory reporting, and strong accounting controls.
- Make our accounting processes better – identify opportunities to improve and automate accounting processes, systems, reconciliations, and reporting, including opportunities to use AI and automation within Finance.
- Share your expertise – review accounting work and mentor junior and intermediate team members, helping strengthen technical accounting knowledge across the Finance team.

You may be the right person for this role if you:
- Have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with robust technical accounting knowledge across areas such as revenue recognition, deferred revenue, financial reporting, and complex transactions.
- Bring strong ASPE knowledge and can research accounting guidance, determine the appropriate treatment, and clearly document your conclusions.
- Have hands-on experience investigating complex reconciliations and significant variances, with the curiosity and persistence to trace issues back to their root cause rather than simply rolling them forward.
- Have experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, inter-company, and consolidation accounting, along with strong Excel and accounting system/ERP skills.
- Are comfortable taking ownership of complex accounting issues and working independently, while prioritizing competing deadlines and collaborating effectively with the broader Finance team.
- Love to learn and grow – you challenge yourself to learn, fail, and constantly improve, whether that’s through formal education or by gaining qualified experience.

Some bonuses for us are if you:
- Hold a CPA designation or are actively pursuing your CPA.
- Have experience improving and automating accounting processes,

including experience with AI, QuickBooks automation, or payment processor reconciliations such as Adyen.
- Have experience with treasury, cash management, foreign currency accounting, or leading subsidiary/entity-level audits.
- Have worked in a growing, multi-entity organization and have experience with or exposure to U.S. GAAP.

What we offer: At ToursByLocals, we believe great talent comes from all backgrounds. Our travellers and guides come from all walks of life, and so do we! We encourage candidates of all experiences to apply, even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications.

We are committed to equitable compensation across regions. The hiring range for this role in Canada is $75,000-$90,000 CAD. We look forward to discussing this with you during our hiring process.

We want to make your recruitment experience as smooth as possible. If you require accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know when applying or email [email protected]—we’re happy to help!
