Part time Accountant
Aspen Creek Designer Homes Ltd. is a growing, mid-sized custom home builder based in Calgary. We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Accountant to join our team and support our accounting, financial reporting, and corporate tax requirements.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong general ledger and full-cycle accounting experience, a solid understanding of month-end processes, and demonstrated experience with corporate tax preparation, GST filings, and year-end accounting.
The successful candidate will work closely with management and our finance team to maintain accurate financial records, support timely financial reporting, manage tax compliance requirements, and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
This is an in-person position. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies or variances
- Complete bank, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations
- Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting as required
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
- Prepare year-end working papers and schedules
- Prepare and file corporate GST returns and ensure GST accounts are properly reconciled
- Prepare and/or coordinate corporate income tax returns and tax filings
- Maintain accurate tax accounts and reconcile GST and other tax-related balance sheet accounts
- Monitor tax filing deadlines and ensure required filings are completed accurately and on time
- Review accounting transactions for appropriate GST treatment and identify potential issues
- Work with external tax advisors/accountants as required and provide supporting documentation
- Assist with audit and year-end requirements
- Ensure accounting records and processes comply with applicable accounting standards and internal policies
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency
- Collaborate with management and other departments to resolve accounting issues and provide financial support
Qualifications & Requirements
- CPA designation or equivalent accounting designation/experience
- Demonstrated experience with corporate tax preparation and compliance
- Experience preparing and filing GST returns
- Strong understanding of GST and its application to business transactions
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and general accounting principles
- Previous experience as an Accountant, Intermediate Accountant, or similar role
- Strong general ledger and month-end close experience
- Experience preparing year-end working papers and schedules for corporate tax filings
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency with Google Workspace/Google Suite
- Strong account reconciliation and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Construction, development, or home-building industry experience is considered an asset
What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who can be a hands-on accounting resource for our team. While this is a part-time position, we need someone who is comfortable working independently, understands the full accounting cycle, and can take ownership of accounting, year-end, and tax-related requirements.
The ideal candidate will have the experience to prepare corporate tax working papers, manage GST filings, understand the tax implications of accounting transactions, and work directly with external tax professionals when required.
