Senior AccountantJob Summary

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to independently manage the accounting and financial operations of our growing businesses, Signalix and Drextel.

This is a standalone, one-person accounting department, with the successful candidate responsible for managing the full range of accounting functions across both businesses. The position reports directly to the directors of Signalix and Drextel and requires someone who is comfortable working independently, taking ownership of financial processes, and managing competing priorities without day-to-day supervision.

The role requires solid technical accounting knowledge, exceptional Excel skills, and the ability to manage high volumes of financial transactions across multiple companies and provinces. Key responsibilities include intercompany accounting, commission reconciliation, financial reporting, cash flow statements, multi-province tax compliance, payroll processing, and preparing tax and year-end filing documentation.

We are looking for someone who is exceptionally comfortable working with large, complex spreadsheets, processing numerous transactions efficiently, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring financial records are accurate and properly reconciled. The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and capable of identifying issues, developing solutions, and improving accounting processes independently.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Reporting

- Independently manage the day-to-day accounting operations for Signalix and Drextel.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare cash flow statements, monitor cash positions, and assist with cash flow forecasting.
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide the directors with regular financial updates, reporting, and analysis to support business decisions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

Intercompany Accounting
- Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and account balances across multiple related companies.
- Ensure intercompany charges, transfers, allocations, and settlements are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between intercompany accounts.
- Maintain accurate intercompany schedules and assist with consolidated financial reporting, where applicable.

Commission Reconciliation




- Reconcile commissions received from carriers and other business partners against internal sales reports, activation data, and accounting records.
- Process and analyze large volumes of commission transactions using Excel and other financial systems.
- Identify missing payments, discrepancies, incorrect commission amounts, and other variances.
- Maintain detailed commission reconciliation spreadsheets and supporting documentation.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to investigate and resolve outstanding commission issues.
- Ensure commission revenue is accurately recorded and reported within the appropriate accounting periods.

Tax Compliance & Filing Preparation
- Assist with the preparation and filing of HST/GST and other applicable provincial tax returns.
- Ensure transactions are accurately categorized according to the applicable tax treatment in each province.
- Reconcile tax accounts and identify discrepancies before filing.
- Prepare supporting schedules, documentation, and working papers for corporate tax filings, year-end reporting, and external accountants.
- Maintain organized financial records to support tax compliance, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor applicable tax requirements across multiple Canadian provinces.

Excel & Financial Data Management
- Use advanced Excel functions to process, organize, analyze, and reconcile large volumes of financial data.
- Develop and maintain detailed spreadsheets, reconciliation templates, and financial reports.
- Work extensively with formulas, PivotTables, lookups, data validation, and other tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Import, manipulate, and reconcile data from multiple Excel files and accounting systems.
- Identify errors, investigate unusual transactions, and implement processes to minimize manual errors.
- Streamline recurring accounting tasks through improved spreadsheet design and automation where appropriate.

Payroll & General Accounting
- Process and reconcile payroll using ADP.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting activities.
- Ensure financial documentation is complete, organized, and readily accessible.

Independent Department Management
- Independently oversee the accounting function for both businesses as a one-person department.
- Establish and maintain effective accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.




- Prioritize and manage multiple deadlines, including monthly reporting, reconciliations, payroll, and tax filings.
- Take ownership of accounting issues and proactively communicate concerns, discrepancies, and outstanding matters to the directors.
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, and other service providers when specialized support is required.
- Maintain regular communication with the directors regarding financial performance, cash flow, outstanding issues, and upcoming deadlines.

Qualifications & Skills
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is preferred.
- Proven experience in a Senior Accountant or similar accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes.
- Advanced Excel skills are essential, including the ability to efficiently process and reconcile high volumes of transactions across multiple spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated experience with commission reconciliation, preferably involving sales-based commissions or carrier commission structures.
- Experience managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations across multiple legal entities.
- Knowledge of Canadian HST/GST and multi-province tax requirements.
- Experience preparing tax filings, supporting schedules, and year-end working papers.
- Strong understanding of cash flow statements, cash flow forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) is preferred.
- Experience with ADP payroll processing is an asset.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of financial processes, and collaborate effectively with directors and external partners.

What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and highly proficient in Excel. They should be comfortable working with large datasets, managing numerous transactions, and performing detailed reconciliations across multiple companies. As this is a standalone accounting role, the successful candidate must be confident managing the accounting function independently, exercising sound judgment, and meeting deadlines without direct departmental support.
