We are seeking an experienced Senior Claims Adjuster – Cross Border, Hospitality & Retail Claims to join our growing team in Canada. This position offers flexible work arrangements, including remote, hybrid, or in-office options.
The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a portfolio of complex casualty and commercial general liability (CGL) claims across Canada, with a focus on hospitality and retail-related exposures. This includes investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving claims involving bodily injury, business interruption, foodborne illness, slip-and-fall incidents, and other casualty matters. The role requires strong analytical, negotiation, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple files efficiently while delivering exceptional client service.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Investigate, evaluate, and manage casualty, CGL, bodily injury, and business interruption claims from inception through resolution.
- Conduct detailed claim investigations, including gathering statements, reviewing documentation, and assessing liability and damages.
- Analyze coverage, liability, causation, and quantum to determine appropriate claim resolution strategies.
- Negotiate settlements within delegated authority and provide recommendations on files exceeding authority limits.
- Manage hospitality and retail-related claims, including foodborne illness, premises liability, slip-and-fall, and other casualty exposures.
- Coordinate and direct the activities of legal counsel, experts, field adjusters, and other external service providers as required.
- Maintain accurate file documentation, reports, billing records, and expense tracking.
- Prepare clear and concise reports for clients, insurers, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and litigation management activities when required.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience handling casualty, commercial general liability (CGL), bodily injury, or business interruption claims.
- Experience managing hospitality, retail, premises liability, foodborne illness, slip-and-fall, or other casualty-related claims is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of claims investigation, coverage analysis, liability assessment, and settlement negotiation.
- Experience handling cross-border claims and litigation management is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Insurance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- CIP designation (or actively working toward completion) is preferred.
- Independent Adjuster License with the ability to maintain licensing in the home province; multiple provincial licenses are considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and claims management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail and service excellence.
