POSITION OVERVIEW In the position of Shipping Team Lead you will make a difference every single day as you fill in for the Shipping Supervisor or Assistant Shipping Supervisor in their absence and perform all duties of Shippers, Receivers, and the Shipping Supervisor as needed.
WAGE
$25.75 - $26.75, plus $2 Team Lead premium
Schedule: Sunday: 10:00am – Finish, Monday - Thursday: 7:00pm – 3:30am
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Must have at least one year’s previous warehouse experience in storage and rotation of supplies and flow of production.
- Must have prior experience with mobile equipment such as forklift and pallet jack.
- Grade 12 education and solid English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision
- Able to adapt to changes and open to learning new ways to get things done more efficiently and effectively
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, thinking and reacting quickly, and making fast yet accurate decisions
- Sound understanding of the principles and practices of effective supervision, skilled at motivating and leading a diverse group of employees. Additional training in supervision would be desirable
- Basic knowledge of computer and able to learn in-house systems
- Must be able to communicate and work well with others as part of a team, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions
- Must be able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness and productivity
- Routine decision making which generally follows set standards and procedures
- Problem solving includes dealing with such issues as shortage of eggs (particularly during holiday times) and providing accurate and detail information on customer complaints such as wrong orders shipped
- Problem solving is based on both individual judgement and work experience
- Many decisions are made independently by the Shipping Supervisor, but some require the assistance of the Shipping Manager or Distribution Manager to resolve
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Scan in at the start of your shift and out at the end of your shift
- Review the manpower schedule daily
- Back up for when the Shipping Supervisor or Assistant Shipping Supervisor is absent or on vacation.
- Fulfill all of the requirements of the Shipping Supervisor a minimum of one day every month to keep relevant of Supervisor functions.
- Count trucks at the start of the shift and assist with dock allocation.
- Lead “buddy trainer” for new hires.
- Provide on the floor direction to shipping employees and support for questions.
- Inform IT department of any computer equipment concerns or issues related to NAV
- Determine what orders have priority and ensuring orders are filled correctly and on time
- Pick specific product and quantities based on customer orders
- Ensure egg stock is rotated and that older stock is picked first, follow FIFO
- Ensure all product is properly scanned and moved in the NAV inventory system
- Communicate verbally with production team on required types and quantities of egg packaging materials as well as communicating any problems with the supply
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required HACCP forms and documents
- Check dates frequently, ensuring that they are correct and legible, if not – report findings to Shipping Supervisor
- When building skids ensure they are securely stacked with required slip sheets, dividers, plastic wrap, twine, corner protectors, etc are used and that the skids are moved cautiously during the building process
- Safely apply glad hands to trailers before entering onto a trailer in a dock. Safely remove glad hands when trailer is fully empty and ready to be removed from loading dock
- When loading or receiving eggs they should be arranged in a trailer that is of good condition and unloaded in a manner that prevents damage or contamination. The inspection of the trailer shall be documented. Safely and efficiently load/unload eggs, take temperature and place in the trailer/cooler.
- If receiving eggs ensure the supplier is on the approved listing, and that the proper documentation is completed/samples taken for inspection prior to release
- Report any issues with incoming egg quality or trailer integrity to Supervisor
- Ensure returned or damaged eggs are condensed and stored in proper location, segregated from good finished product.
- Report and document all maintenance/load concerns to appropriate department, and put details into MaintainX.
- Safely operator power equipment (and hand jacks) to complete required job tasks and ensure an equipment issues are reported. Do not operate power equipment unless proper training and certification has been completed
- Ensure power equipment has been parked in storage area and charged if required
- Participate in all required training sessions
- If loading, ensure specific product and quantities are correct based on customer orders
- Ensure load sheets have been initialled and include restraint devices sent
- Ensure trucks are loaded/unloaded properly following company policies and procedures
- Keep finished cooler, staging area, clean supply room and overall work area clean, tidy, and free from hazards. Floors must be kept clean and free of broken egg
- Be part of the employee rotation to ship/receive graded eggs on stat holidays if required
- As required, participate in month end and year end inventory counts
- Be an active contributor to the facility food safety culture by ensuring established GMP and bio security procedures are followed, and report any food safety concerns
- All other duties assigned by Shipping Supervisor or Assistant Shipping Supervisor
