At the intersection of massive-scale data infrastructure and advertising technology, Amazon is hiring a
Software Development Engineer II to join its
Programmatic Reporting (PREP)
team in
Toronto, Ontario . This is a high-ownership engineering role within Amazon Advertising's Measurement and Data Science (MADS) organization — the team responsible for turning billions of daily ad events into consistent, accurate reporting that external systems depend on to measure and grow advertising investment.
The scope here is genuinely large: petabyte-scale data, millions of transactions per second, and event-driven architectures built on AWS. You'll contribute to two tier-1 reporting surfaces — the
Reporting API and
Amazon Marketing Stream
— along with the
Offline Engine
(Iceberg + Spark on EMR) that powers them both. This isn't a role where you own a single component; you'll work end to end across requirements, system design, implementation, testing, and production support.
About the Role: Software Development Engineer II — Ads Reporting The PREP team builds programmatic interfaces — not dashboards — that allow other companies' systems to measure and optimize their Amazon advertising spend. As an SDE II, you'll design and build scalable features across the
Reporting API
(an asynchronous pull surface for analytical queries),
Amazon Marketing Stream
(a push surface for high-volume recurring data), and the processing engines underneath. You'll use
Apache Spark ,
EMR , and a suite of AWS services including Lambda, S3, SQS, Step Functions, Kinesis, and DynamoDB.
You'll work closely with senior and principal engineers on architecture for high-impact projects, and partner with product managers and technical account managers to translate customer pain points into shipped features. A key strategic initiative is delivering
Unified Reporting as Amazon's single programmatic reporting solution and shifting high-volume consumption away from repeated API polling toward Amazon Marketing Stream. The team values direct communication, a strong bias for action,
and a customer-backwards approach to everything it builds.
Benefits and Salary The base salary range for this position is $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually . As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may also include sign-on payments and
Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) . Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance
(medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D;), a
Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) , a
Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP) ,
paid time off , and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities This role spans two tier-1 reporting surfaces and the engines behind them, so day-to-day work ranges from system design and coding to production monitoring and cross-functional collaboration. You'll own projects from initial requirements through to live production support — with real accountability for the systems you build at scale.
Design and build scalable, secure, and reliable features and data solutions across the Reporting API, Amazon Marketing Stream, and the processing engines — from requirements and system design through implementation, testing, and production support.
