Position Description: BARS Standards & Technical Documentation Specialist

Reports to: BARS Group Manager Technical Services

Primary Objective

Reporting to the BARS Group Manager Technical Services, the BARS Standards & Technical Documentation Specialist is responsible for assisting with the ongoing development, review, and evolution of the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) BAR Standards and associated guidance materials.

The role ensures that the BAR Standards remain relevant, practical, evidence-based, and responsive to operational experience, emerging risks, and stakeholder needs.

Working closely with the Senior Technical Adviser, as required, this position supports a cooperative and credible standards-development process.

In addition, this position is responsible for the maintenance, update, publication and distribution of all ancillary Program documentation.

The BARS Standards & Technical Documentation Specialist is also to provide technical advice as required by the Group Manager Technical Services and provide technical support to all stakeholders within the Program.

This position does not carry line-management responsibility, but requires strong collaboration, technical judgment, and the ability to work effectively across internal and external stakeholder working groups.

Responsibilities

Standards Production (~ 60%)

- Support the Group Manager Technical Services in meeting and achieving the FSF / BARS Program objectives.
- Work in collaboration with the Senior Technical Adviser in standards development activities.
- Contribute to broader technical and Program initiatives where standards-development expertise is required.

Audit & Quality production support (~ 30%)

- Support the conduct of quality checks on audit data and reports to ensure a consistent

and accurate standard of auditing.




- Support the conduct of the 2nd party audit and observation program.
- Ensure that BARS Program technical documentation is accurate and relevant.
- Manage the distribution and control of BARS Program documentation.
- Assist with technical inquiries and support for Air Operator (AO), BARS Member Organisation (BMO), Audit Company (AC), and internal staff.

Other duties (~ 10%)

- Manage the delivery of the Desk-Top-Review (DTR) and Business Continuity Evaluation

(BCE) products.
- Support with data and presentations for the Audit Review Meetings.
- Support the operators undertaking the Small Operator Development Scheme.
- Support the Program evolution and development by entering concepts, issues and ideas

in the Issues Register.
- Undertake and report on projects as assigned by the Group Manager Technical Services
- Manage the production of case study material for use in the BARS Program and

Foundation work.
- Participate in Standards Review Team decisions as directed.

Criteria:

Mandatory

· Montreal, Quebec based, but with flexible working arrangements possible;

· Minimum 10 years aviation experience;

· NAA issued CPL or ATPL (fixed and/or rotary wing); or NAA issued Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License;

· Minimum 6 years aviation auditing / advisory experience;

· Fulfil the prerequisites to become a BARS Accredited Auditor;

· Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities and complex technical issues with a high degree of professionalism;





· High standard of written and oral communication skills;

· Proficient in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

· Rotary-wing experience;

· Written and spoken Spanish language proficiency;

· Experience in international stakeholder engagement and technical oversight across diverse cultural and regulatory environments;

· Previous BARS experience including Accredited Auditor experience;

· Tertiary qualifications in Safety Management Systems or related fields.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
