Optional Rehabilitation Services Inc. (OPTIONS) is a not-for profit agency approved to support adults and seniors who have a wide range of disabilities. For 40 years and in a partnership of support, OPTIONS, individuals and their families work together to create individualized support models that enhance and fulfill hopes and dreams.

OPTIONS is looking for a Supportive Roommate who lives in Calgary to support our client. The ideal Supportive Roommate would assist the client in community engagement, taking him into the community, and doing activities with him. they also will have clear and concise communication style and prioritize western/Canadian style food.

This position pays $2,200/month tax-free, plus room and board.

OUR CLIENT

Our client is an independent male adult in his 60’s. He needs assistance to make connections, however he is able to go into the community and use transit independently.

Our client is prone to seizures and is developmentally delayed. He requires a Supportive Roommate who can ensure his safety and follow established guidelines to support his daily care.

HOME REQUIREMENTS

Our client thrives in a home where he has his own space, but is also able to interact with others in the home. He would prefer an apartment style space where he can unwind and enjoy his activities. Our client loves dogs and would feel comfortable in a home where there’s a family pet.

Ideally, the home will be located near transit, and within walking distance to a drug store.

The home must have operating fire detectors and extinguishers and will be subject to safety and furnace inspections by OPTIONS throughout the year. Commercial liability insurance for the home a requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES The Supportive Roommate will be responsible for the following:

· Ability to provide supportive and positive companionship to an adult with development disabilities.





· Assisting the client with community connections and taking them into the community

· Support our client with daily medications and treatment plan.

· Support our client with household duties such as laundry, meal preparation and cleaning.

· Active participation in the individual’s care plan and support team.

· Complete Supportive Roommate documentation as provided and required by OPTIONS.

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with an adult with mental health and developmental disabilities.

· Post-secondary education in disability services, mental health, addictions or relevant field such as Social Work, Nursing, etc. is preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered.

· Excellent written and oral English communication skills for clear understanding of instructions and daily care needs.

· Must be able to develop rapport and build a trusting relationship for long term support.

· Must be patient, reliable and able to create a comfortable and respectful workplace.

REQUIREMENTS

- On-going mandatory training (Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Positive Behavioral Supports, Emergency First Aid, etc.).
- Current Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Minimum Class 5 License with $2M Liability Vehicle Insurance
