Position Overview

The Architect is responsible for leading architectural projects through planning approvals, building permit, construction documentation, and construction administration. The role serves as the primary project lead for assigned projects and is accountable for project coordination, consultant management, technical delivery, documentation quality, and overall project execution.

This is a hands-on role requiring both project leadership and technical production. The successful candidate must be capable of independently producing and coordinating architectural documentation while managing consultant teams and project delivery.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Project Leadership

- Lead assigned projects from concept through construction completion.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, deliverables, and action item tracking.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks and constraints.
- Coordinate project resources to meet project objectives and deadlines.

Planning Approvals & Permitting

- Lead municipal planning approval and building permit processes.
- Prepare and coordinate submission packages and supporting documentation.
- Track review comments and coordinate responses with the consultant team.




- Liaise with municipal staff, review agencies, and approval authorities.
- Maintain approval schedules and submission requirements.

Consultant Coordination

- Coordinate civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, landscape, planning, transportation, and specialty consultants.
- Lead consultant meetings and coordination reviews.
- Review consultant deliverables for completeness and coordination.
- Resolve interdisciplinary conflicts and technical coordination issues.

Design & Technical Production

- Develop and maintain Revit models for assigned projects.
- Prepare plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Produce design development, permit, tender, and construction drawing packages.
- Coordinate consultant information within project documentation.
- Develop practical and technically sound design solutions.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, coordinated, and constructible.

Quality Control

- Perform drawing reviews and coordination checks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain project documentation standards and quality objectives.
- Participate in internal QA/QC reviews.

Construction Administration

- Review shop drawings, product submissions, RFIs, and change requests.
- Attend site meetings and conduct field reviews.
- Prepare site review reports and related documentation.
- Assist in resolving construction-related issues.
- Participate in deficiency reviews and project closeout activities.

Team Support

- Provide guidance and mentorship to Intern Architects, Designers,



and Technologists.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices.
- Support continuous improvement of project delivery standards and workflows.

Requirements

- Professional Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree from an accredited institution.
- Registered Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), or eligible and actively pursuing registration.
- Minimum 8 years of architectural experience.
- Experience leading projects through municipal approvals and building permit.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
- Experience producing construction documentation and administering construction contracts.
- Experience working on residential, mixed-use, commercial, institutional, or other complex building projects.
- Solid knowledge of the Ontario Building Code.
- Strong understanding of municipal planning and development approval processes.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Knowledge of accessibility and life safety requirements.
- Understanding of contract administration and construction processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Ability to effectively coordinate clients, consultants, and project teams.
- Ability and willingness to work in a full-time onsite arrangement (5 days per week) at the designated office location.
