The Used Truck Buyer is responsible for overseeing the acquisition, appraisal, inventory management, marketing, and profitability of the Used Truck Division. This role plays a critical part in supporting new truck sales through trade evaluations, sourcing quality inventory, and maximizing the financial performance of used truck operations.

Responsibilities
Lead the appraisal, intake, retail preparation, and marketing of inbound and outbound used truck assets
Determine and approve appraisal values for trade-ins andbranch purchases
Collaborate with Peterbilt Motors on used truck initiatives, inventory strategies, and business opportunities
Collaborate with Branch Managers to identify, evaluate, and approve inventory acquisitions at profitable intake values
Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale networks and Peterbilt dealer groups across North America to identify inventory opportunities, support remarketing efforts, and drive profitable sales outcomes
Assist Truck Sales Representatives with trade appraisals to support new truck sales growth and customer retention
Structure deals involving over-allowances, wholesale transactions, and other inventory acquisition opportunities
Identify, prospect, and develop buy-and-sell opportunities across multiple channels and markets.
Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders, customers, dealers, wholesalers, and vendors
Oversee the timely marketing of inventory, including online listings, photography, specifications, and promotional content on the company website and third-party platforms
Support inventory movement strategies to optimize turnover and profitability
Drive the profitability of the Used Truck Division, including accountability for divisional P&L; performance
Monitor and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to gross profit, inventory aging, inventory turns, and sales volumes
Evaluate market conditions and inventory performance to support strategic purchasing and pricing decisions
Ensure inventory transactions and documentation are completed accurately and efficiently
Work closely with Inventory Management and Sales Coordination teams to ensure proper release, title transfer, and documentation of used truck assets
Partner with branch managers, sales teams, service departments, and leadership to align inventory strategies with overall business objectives
Demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented approach while contributing innovative solutions to operational challenges
Other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
3+ years of business management or commercial sales experience
Completion of post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree program is an asset
Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Unrestricted Driver’s License and a clean drivers abstract
Proven ability to appraise used trucks and evaluate asset values accurately
Service, maintenance, or mechanical background within the trucking industry is an asset
Experience managing used truck inventory, wholesale channels, or fleet asset transactions is an asset
Ability to travel often as a mandatory part of the position
Strong knowledge of commercial truck specifications, configurations, and market values
Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills
Solid problem-solving skills and a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset
Financial acumen with an understanding of profitability analysis, pricing strategies, and inventory management
Knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
Strong personal organizational skills as they relate to workload, time management and setting priorities in an unsupervised environment
Compensation Rate
$80,000 - $90,000per year+ variable compensation
Salarywill be determined based on previous experience, relevant certifications and skill level
