Qualifications
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- University degree in related field is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum four (4) directly related UX design experience in a marketing communications environment required (or relevant education and experience).
- Expertise in UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, Figma, as well as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript is required.
- Experience working with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision is required.
- Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design is required.
- Experience in planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, usability and accessibility concerns required.
- Experience with digital project/product management is required.
- Experience in project management is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills is required.
- Strong writing and editing skills required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
- Proficiency with software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, online work management software, and web content management systems is required.

Key responsibilities
The Strategic Marketing and Communications team at the University of Manitoba is seeking a talented User Experience/Information Architect designer to help shape exceptional digital experiences. In this role, you’ll collaborate on innovative projects—designing and delivering wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mock-ups optimized for diverse devices and interfaces. - Provides leadership and direction in digital experience design, user journeys and co-development practices.
- Conducts concept and usability research, analysis and testing. This will include market scans for trends in technology usage, secondary market research with other universities/organizations and 3rd party research/whitepapers.
- Facilitates user experience workshops with internal and external stakeholders across the university environment.
- Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mock-ups of digital products optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Takes a user-centered design approach, testing and iterating designs in partnership with end users.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams as a subject matter expert in web content writing,
contributing to the development and delivery of the digital components of a broader digital strategy/roadmap.
- Makes strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and current, functions and features.
- Conduct user experience audits of existing web platforms with the intent to recommend and inform opportunities for improvement.
- Use web analytics to inform decisions that form recommendations for governing bodies and team members across IST and SMC.
- Design and develop training materials for content administrators.
- Deliver training to content administrators.
- Provides support and guidance to colleagues and clients to assist in achieving a positive user experience and consistent brand presence on UM's marketing and communications platforms (such as umanitoba.ca, UM Today and UM Intranet).
- Remain current on emerging trends and technologies related to digital user experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
