Job Type: Part-Time Term

Term Length: October 2026 – March 2027

Wage: $17.50 per hour

Schedule: Practice 1 evening a week (2 hours) and games on either Saturdays or Sundays (3 hours)

Team Age Group: 12-17 year old (exact age group to be confirmed)

Job Summary: Join our dynamic team as a Youth Basketball Coach and ignite a passion for sports, teamwork, and healthy living among young athletes! In this energetic role, you will lead youth basketball program, foster skill development, and promote sportsmanship in a fun, inclusive workplace. Your enthusiasm and coaching expertise will inspire children to reach their full potential both on and off the court.

This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact while honing your teaching and sports management skills.

League/Team: The team will be playing in the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) community club. Team is made up of first or second-year players that are learning the game and developing their skills.

Responsibilities

- Teach fundamental basketball techniques, rules, and strategies to young players




- Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork
- Organize practice drills, scrimmages, and game-day activities to enhance player development
- Provide feedback and guidance to athletes on their performance
- Monitor safety protocols during all activities to ensure a secure environment for participants
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding player progress and program updates

Qualifications

- Proven experience in teaching or coaching youth sports, especially basketball
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategies (familiar with WMBA rules and modifications)
- Ability to motivate and inspire children while maintaining a lively and positive atmosphere
- Excellent communication skills to engage with young athletes, parents, and team members
- Enthusiasm for promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles among youth
- Provide clear police record check with vulnerable sector search (PVSC) and child abuse registry checks obtained within the past 6 months
- Respect in Sport Certification or willing to obtain
