At RYSE Supportive Services Inc., we provide specialized residential care for children and youth in alignment with the Specialized Homes and Support Services (SHSS) model.

Our homes provide safe, nurturing, and structured environments for youth who may have complex support needs and require either long-term stabilization or Emergency Placement (EP) services.

Our approach is relationship-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and centred on each youth’s individual strengths, needs, voice, and choices. We believe meaningful and consistent relationships are essential to helping young people feel secure, build skills, strengthen connections, and work toward greater independence.

Your Role

As a Residential Child and Youth Worker (RCYW), you are an important part of a youth’s everyday life and care team.

This role goes beyond providing supervision. You will be a consistent adult presence, mentor, advocate, role model, and source of stability for youth who may be navigating trauma, behavioural challenges, mental health concerns, substance use, family transitions, or other complex circumstances.

You will work closely with Residence Coordinators, Program Managers, clinicians, social workers, cultural supports, and other members of the youth’s care team to implement individualized care plans and provide safe, respectful, and responsive care.

Depending on program needs, you may work within a long-term stabilization home, an Emergency Placement program, or provide coverage within other RYSE homes. Flexibility and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-intensity or rapidly changing situations are important parts of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Youth Care & Relationship Building

- Build safe, respectful, and trusting relationships with youth.
- Provide active supervision, guidance, emotional support, and individualized care.
- Support youth with emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and healthy decision-making.
- Encourage youth participation in decisions, household routines, and personal goal setting.
- Respect and uphold youth rights, privacy, dignity, cultural identity, safety, and autonomy.

Life Skills & Daily Living

- Support youth in developing practical life skills, including cooking, cleaning, laundry, budgeting, hygiene, organization, scheduling, and communication.
- Prepare meals and involve youth in grocery shopping and meal planning where appropriate.
- Support school attendance, appointments, employment, recreation, family contact, and other daily routines.
- Encourage increasing independence based on each youth’s abilities, goals, and care plan.

Safety & Crisis Response

- Respond calmly and effectively to behavioural, emotional, or safety-related crises.
- Use approved de-escalation and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) strategies.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to concerns related to mental health, substance use, aggression, self-harm, or other identified risks.
- Follow individualized safety plans, behaviour-support strategies, supervision requirements, and emergency procedures.
- Provide First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration when required and within current training.

Medication & Health Support

- Administer prescribed medications in accordance with organizational policies and individual care plans.
- Maintain accurate medication records, including dosage, administration time,



and required documentation.
- Transport and accompany youth to medical appointments, assessments, counselling, and other healthcare services as required.

Documentation & Reporting

- Complete accurate and timely daily logs, progress notes, medication records, life-skills documentation, and Critical Incident Reports.
- Document objectively and professionally in accordance with RYSE, SHSS, and MCFD requirements.
- Communicate significant concerns, incidents, changes, or emerging risks to the appropriate members of the leadership and care team.

Home & Program Responsibilities

- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming home environment.
- Complete household responsibilities including meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and general home upkeep.
- Provide safe transportation to school, appointments, family visits, recreation, and community activities.
- Supervise family visits and community activities when required.
- Follow all RYSE policies, procedures, care plans, safety requirements, and program expectations.

Team Collaboration

- Work collaboratively with Residence Coordinators, Program Managers, clinicians, social workers, and other members of the youth’s care team.
- Participate in staff meetings, clinical consultations, debriefings, training, and care-planning discussions.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with youth, coworkers, families, professionals, and community partners.

Cultural & Community Connection

- Support youth in maintaining and exploring their cultural, spiritual, family, and community connections.
- Promote culturally safe and inclusive care.
- Support Indigenous, newcomer, LGBTQ2S+, and culturally diverse youth in ways that respect their identities and individual experiences.
- Facilitate participation in recreational, therapeutic, cultural, and community-based activities identified within the youth’s care plan.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Minimum 2 years of direct experience supporting at-risk or vulnerable youth; residential care experience is strongly preferred.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Ability and willingness to safely transport youth as part of regular job duties.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Current Naloxone training.
- Current Food Safe certification.
- Completion of required privacy and FOIPPA training.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification or equivalent experience; training may be required as part of employment.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and youth-centred during crisis or high-intensity situations.
- Experience supporting youth with complex needs, which may include trauma, mental health concerns, substance use, behavioural challenges, aggression, and family instability.
- Understanding of trauma-informed, relationship-based, culturally responsive, and SHSS-aligned care.
- Ability to complete clear, accurate, and professional documentation.
- Successful completion and maintenance of all required MCFD screening and background-clearance requirements.





Work Conditions

- In-person work within staffed specialized residential homes in Abbotsford, BC.
- 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Employees must be available to work a combination of shifts based on youth and program needs.
- May include work within both long-term stabilization and Emergency Placement programs.
- Emergency Placement work may involve supporting youth during high-intensity, crisis, or transitional situations.
- Employees may be required to provide coverage at different RYSE homes, sometimes with limited notice, based on operational and youth-care needs.
- The role requires the ability to respond to unpredictable situations while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and a calm, supportive approach.
- Overtime is paid where applicable in accordance with employment standards and any applicable averaging agreement.

$29.22 per hour

Tier 2
2,001–4,000 total hours worked
$30.22 per hour

Tier 3
4,001–6,000 total hours worked
$31.86 per hour

Tier 4
6,001+ total hours worked
$33.54 per hour

Employees progress through the wage grid based on accumulated hours worked.

This position operates on a 12-hour shift model and requires flexibility to meet the needs of the youth and programs we support.
