Hours of Work: 7.5-hours Monday to Friday (subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $32.72 to 33.62/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance 1 position is required to work under the direction of the Facilities and Infrastructure Manager in the Maintenance Department at the Brockville General Hospital. The Maintenance 1 technician participates as a member of the Maintenance team, by performing routine maintenance and repairs. Performs maintenance tasks and repairs that support the BGH preventative maintenance program, and assists other trades as required. Participates in hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and aptitude in performing minor repairs to doors, windows, floors, drywall and painting normally acquired through formal training or on the job experience.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, WHMIS and health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge and ability to source parts and work effectively vendors and contractors.
- Experience in general and preventive maintenance, preferably in an institutional or hospital environment
- Preference will be given to the individual with 5 + years of construction experience or qualifications.

- Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a trade team and the demonstrated ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, management, patients and the general public
- Must have good communication skills and demonstrated arithmetic proficiency to calculate material requirements and estimate costs
- Must be self-starter, flexible, dependable and conscientious
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and work with minimal supervision
- Preparing material take-offs and cost estimates for proposed work
- Maintaining inventory of hardware, equipment, supplies and associated materials
- Performs duties related to ongoing preventative maintenance
- Ensuring work area is secure and safety precautions are followed
- Coordinates with and assists other tradesmen in major projects or repairs as required and assigned
- General maintenance duties in the department as required and assigned
