Job DescriptionPosition Purpose Summary: The role ensures consistent profitability of the store by implementing national and regional standards in sales, customer service, merchandising, marketing, public relations, staff training, reclamation and product donation flow, transportation, and processing of in-store donations.AccountabilitiesDirect all operations of store to meet sales targets and control expenses while maintaining customer service standardsHire, orient, train, evaluate, recognize, discipline, and terminate staff based on Territorial/National standardsManage health and safety, labor & employee relations, and other related issues at a store levelDecide on in‑store promotions and auctions and keep abreast of marketing trends by checking competitors’ stockPlan store layout to attract customers, including window displays and merchandise displaysDetermine and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on spot checks and reviews of weekly sales recordsMaintain control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriatelyEnsure in‑store safety for staff and customers (e.G., snow removal, transparent fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, clean spillages and maintain store cleanliness)Prepare financial and other requested reports to National and Regional offices (sales reports, staffing costs, payroll data, etc.)Work with Salvation Army agencies to deliver emergency and disaster services as assigned by District ManagerPlan, organize, direct, and control all store operationsHelp store associates make connections with customers and demonstrate a value‑driven workforceRole CompetenciesResults drivenDeveloping direct reportsBuilding effective teamsManaging and measuring work/systemsMotivating othersProcess managementTime managementCritical Relationship ManagementInternal: Retail District Managers,



other Retail Store Managers and store teamExternal: Guests, donors, vendors, community store partnersManagerial/Technical ResponsibilitiesReports directly to the Store Manager.Supervises a team of Sales Associates of different levels: responsible for hiring, terminating or making disciplinary decisions, directly supervising 10 or more full‑time, part‑time, and/or volunteers, and providing direction concerning current tasks or assignments.Financial and Material ManagementEstablish and manage in‑store budget within guidelinesExecute budgetary objectives by attaining sales marginsMaintain staff cost ratios and profit objectives as established by the regionEnsure nightly sales are deposited into the appropriate financial institutionAnalyze store financial statements and strategize appropriate actions to attain financial goals and monitor cost of goods (e.G., buying products from warehouse, tracking costs associated with product)Working ConditionsThis is a permanent full-time positionTypical retail selling floor environmentBack room sorting and stock warehousing with consideration for safety factorsFrequent exposure to fumes, dust and temperature fluctuationsFlexibility in personal work hours requiredFrequent interpersonal conflict dealing with customers, volunteers,



students and/or employeesWork is varied with periods of repetitive tasksAttention must be applied for accuracy when preparing financial documentation and staff schedulingMust be accessible in emergency situations as they ariseMay be required to work overtime, as neededWorking outside of business hours is possible; store hours will drive the nature of this role’s work: usually 9AM‑9PM, but may varyWork outdoors rarelyEducation, Experience and QualificationsWillingness to develop understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission in CanadaWork in compliance with OH&S; Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and proceduresAlternative combination of education and experience may be consideredAdditional Education, Qualifications and CertificationsCompletion of College Diploma in Business Retail Management or an equivalent an assetBasic accounting skills requiredFirst aid training required or willing to learn in‑houseWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsExperience and Knowledge3 years of progressive experience in retailThrift retail experience is an assetFashion background is an assetMicrosoft Office – PowerPoint, Excel, Word requiredExperience working for not-for‑profit/charitable and retail experience is an assetFrench language an assetSkills and CapabilitiesCommunication, organizational, problem‑solving, relationship management, negotiation skills are requiredAttention to detailAbility to lead and develop a teamCompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $58,531.20 to $73,174.40 with a maximum of $87,817.60.
