About This Position

About the Role

Working within the Department of Physical Education, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. The HPED 1070 Course Coordinator will oversee the academic alignment, instructor onboarding/mentoring, and risk management logistics for HPED 1070: Foundations of Outdoor Leadership (spanning 3 concurrent sections, with approximately 80-90 total students per semester). The coordinator ensures consistency of course outcomes across all sections, manages the essential pre-trip logistics (securing campsites, park permits, and land-use authorizations) for the required two-day overnight basic camping trips, and provides on-call emergency consultation and decision support for contract instructors while they are in the field.

Additionally, this position is responsible for training, onboarding, and guiding new contract faculty members who have not led this course or its experiential components previously.

Qualifications

- Master's Degree (Required to match the instructional level and program requirements for coordinating multi-section courses at Mount Royal University)
- Wilderness First Aid or higher certification in good standing is required to ensure emergency preparedness and risk-oversight capabilities.
- Assets: External guiding or instructional certifications such as Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG)



Hiking Guide, Paddle Canada, or related national outdoor leadership designations.

Salary: $25.55 - $28.74 per hour Closing Date: September 24, 2026
