Your Opportunity:

Community Oral Health seeks a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) who enjoys working with a dynamic team. The RDH is a front-line representative working with the Calgary and Area oral health team (dental hygienists, dental assistants and administrative staff), collaboratively and independently, to provide and support preventive services outlined in the provincial Oral Health Action Plan (OHAP), which focuses on services for the most vulnerable in the community. Responsibilities may include: visual oral health assessment and fluoride varnish application for preschool and school children; assessing for and applying dental sealants for students in targeted schools; anticipatory guidance with oral health messaging; referral as appropriate; developing and evaluating resource materials; presenting updates or providing training to allied health professionals; participating in and supporting overall team work. The RDH provides services to individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings, such as schools and community health clinics. With the variety of settings comes a variety of work – some days with varied tasks and others with repetitive tasks. Service delivery may require lots of walking, climbing flights of stairs, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time, awkward and repetitive movements. Service delivery involves transporting supplies and equipment. The RDH will be required to pack, lift, move and transport supplies and equipment to various work sites, with some equipment being heavy and awkward (e.g. mobile dental delivery units and chairs). Individual must drive and have an operational vehicle available. Driving can involve both urban and rural travel.



Compensation for work-related travel will be provided. This is a temporary position, ending on or before January 28, 2028.

Description:

As a Dental Hygienist, you will provide clinical oral health care services, health promotion and preventive educational programs. You will examine and chart oral conditions, assess periodontal status, analyzes and interpret client's/patient's condition to develop a client/patient centered diagnosis/assessment and treatment plan. You will provide public education regarding oral health. You will develop and provide in-service and training sessions; dental screening and preventive dental services to schools and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of oral health programs.

Required Qualifications: Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Dental Hygienists (ACDH).

Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide variety of people in a health care environment with professionalism and respect.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients of varied backgrounds and needs. Demonstrated ability to be attentive to detail. Demonstrated ability to keep records and information confidential, understanding legal requirements and how to secure information when transferring.

Robust written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Well-developed organizational and time management skills. Ability to proficiently use basic computer systems – email, Microsoft programs.

Maintains optimal Infection Prevention & Control. Current knowledge of dental hygienist standards and treatment practices; maintains continuing competence program as set out by the Alberta College of Dental Hygienists (ACDH). Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Preference will be given to applicants with recent community health dental experience and experience working with young children, diverse cultures and marginalized populations.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Connect Care an asset.

Experience providing preventive services such as fluoride varnish applications and pit & fissure sealants, in various settings, is preferred.

Experience working in Public Health/Community Health. Work experience in a school environment/child-care centre is an asset. Familiarity with various dental service providers/coverage – e.g.

Alberta

Works/Calgary Dental Treatment Clinics/local offices/organizations supporting access to dental care.
