Assistant Coach - Free to Play MaskwacisJob SummaryFree Play for Kids is seeking energetic and passionate Assistant Coaches to join our Free to Play program on a part-time basis at one of our Free to Play schools in Maskwacis, Alberta. If you have experience playing or coaching sports like soccer, hockey, basketball, or flag football, and enjoy working with children of all ages, we’d love to have you on board!As an Assistant Coach, you will support the Head Coach/Coordinator in delivering high-quality programming for children. A successful candidate will go beyond traditional coaching methods by incorporating a focus on holistic development, including physical literacy, social-emotional learning, and nutritional literacy. This role is perfect for individuals who have lots of energy, strong sports knowledge, and are eager to be great leaders and mentors.Education & QualificationsWorking towards or completed a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institutionExperience coaching or leading youth sports teams and/or extensive playing experienceStandard First Aid Certification and CPR training, or the ability to obtain quicklyClear, up-to-date Criminal and Vulnerable Sector CheckValid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (mandatory), and comfortable commuting to schools in Maskwacis (Indigenous community)Valid certifications in coaching would be considered a major assetKey ResponsibilitiesProgramming Tasks (90% of the role):Work with youth between the ages of 8-12 in the Free to Play program by facilitating programming in collaboration with a Head Coach/Coordinator and other Assistant CoachesLead practices, games, and activities with the ultimate goal of keeping kids engaged, having fun, and being safeParticipate in work assignments arising from special events, special projects,



or overall program initiativesMaintain consistent communication with team members, parents, and stakeholdersModel key organizational values through interactions with all internal and external partners and team membersAdhere to the company's uniform policy by wearing the provided name tag and vest while on dutyRepresent the community that Free Play servesUnderstand and promote the power of sport as a tool for social goodTraining & Development Tasks (10% of the role):Participate in weekly curriculum meetings with management and other coachesComplete additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program (e.G., Sport to Life)Skills & KnowledgeStrong sports knowledge and ability to teach new skillsFun, approachable, and supportive leadership styleTeam player with a service mindsetAdaptable and solution-focusedOrganized and able to manage time effectivelyCulturally respectful and inclusivePosition ConditionsCompensation is $22-$25/hour, depending on experienceAccess to consistent transportation, as the school will be outside of the Edmonton regionAbility to travel a long distance to and from the school siteThis is a part time paid position of approximately 10-15 hours per weekHours of work are determined by the program schedule and are typically Monday - Friday: 3:00 - 5:15 pmWork is primarily performed in schools and recreation settings, but may vary depending on the projectFree Play for Kids is an equal-opportunity employer.
